Donald at Tusker House Breakfast

I read on another thread that Donald is only available for picture taking prior to sitting down at TH Breakfast...and he does not actually come around to each table. Is this correct?

Thanks for posting - I was just getting to this, but I had to cut my lunch short as a student needed help with something.

I wish I would have known this last week, as I would have asked directly at Tusker when we were there. Sometimes Disney does test runs of things, so I'm wondering if that is what it was, or, if this is a new change that will be around for awhile?

The photo stuff they were doing at Tusker House was lame as you stood in front of a wooden door type of thing - we never did it and commented that it was silly, but since Disney loves selling photo packages to people, we figured they would keep doing it. I didn't think they would take Donald out of table interaction during a buffet meal - this is how it is at CRT, but that's a Signature and the photos are part of the dinner. I don't like this new idea at all...

Thanks, Tiger

I hope he still goes around to every table. I was there in September last year and he still came to the tables at that time...

Thanks.
Donald, Goofy, Minnie and Mickey all went around to each table. They danced with the kids and the adults and we got to take photos with each character, it's the best character breakfast in my opinion. We always book early ADR's around 8:30 - 8:45, we've done it 3 times, the last being Jun 09 and it's always been the wonderful, I hope they haven't changed it.

This is from this past summer - I was there in July as well, and this was how it was. Apparently now over the past couple of months (December 09), it has changed to a different format.

We are looking for info from people who have been there very recently over the past couple of months, as the reports are coming from recent visits.

Hopefully, this was just a test run and not a regular occurence, as it really bothers me that considering the price of this buffet, we would now have to pay for a photo with the headliner character.

I just did a search on the dining reviews forum on Donald's Safari Breakfast. I didn't have time to look at a lot of them, but I read one from Oct. 2009, Dec. 2009, and Feb. 2010 and it was the same as my experience in December with Donald in the photo op only outside.

It didn't occur to me that this might just be a test run idea. I should let Disney know that we didn't feel satisfied with this kind of character experience. BTW, the CM helping did take a family photo of us with Donald with our personal camera, but the interaction is not the same as when the characters come by the table.

October 21st 2009 - Donald was only at the front for pics (professional ones, avail to buy) before breakfast and he didn't come round at all, a little dissapointing really, but mickey, goofy and daisy are all there

I wouldn't discount this as a breakfast option though as its great to get an early ADR and be in AK before the crowds - and get to be right at Kili Safaris for it opening , so get on one of the first rides of the day

:thumbsup2 Check in, get fast passes for Safari. Eat breakfast and then hit the safari, no wait. It's a good thing!

Thanks - it definitely sounds like this is the way it is. Disney usually does test runs for shorter periods of time. Since it was reported as far back as Oct., then it's probably safe to assume that it's permanent. :(

This is sad, as we liked doing this breakfast for Daisy, but, I'm not interested in paying for a photo with Donald in a staged setting as we much prefer, like you, characters at our table as it's more informal.

Hmmm...Tiger :(

Shoot! We love Donald & Daisy and that was the deciding factor in booking Donald's Safari breakfast!

I'm not happy to hear about this either...

Well, shoot!! We have breakfast ressies in May and was counting on Donald. TH is one of our favorite buffets. I may check to see if I can change it to a lunch reservation. Thanks for the heads up!

We did Tusker House BFast last Aug. Daisy did visit our table, but Donald was only available at the door. Donald can be seen at Camp Minnie/Mickey photo op, near Festival of the Lion King... Usually pretty uncrowded and relaxed. To see Donald at a meal, Cape May BFast is usually a great option.

Any excuse to make a buck.

We ate breakfast there last week and yes, Donald was only available out front at the photo op, which of course they then try and sell you the photo pkg. for $30. We had already seen Donald at CM earlier in the week so we actually skipped the photo line altogether.

Last time we dined there in July 2008 he still came around to the tables.

We were there in late January and Donald is only outside for a picture and will NOT sign anything  Luckily we had his autograph from Chef Mickey's or I would have been ticked! But we loved the food and service. The other character experience was great.

Thanks.

I was post #11 from that thread and we were there February 20-27, 2010. When our little pager thing went off, we went up the steps at the back of the restaurant and were placed in line for pictures with Donald. The photopass photographer took a couple of pictures and then another CM took a couple with our camera. After that, we were taken in and seated. Mickey, Daisy and Goofy were the only characters that came around to our table.

What do you mean he won't sign anything? That is ridiculous! My kids love their autograph books and will be very disappointed if he refuses to sign them, regardless of whether we see him again later in our trip - still a poor way to treat kids. I think that sounds bizarre.

As for the photo, are you allowed to take your own pics? I would like one of the kids with Donald but do not want to be in or purchase pictures.

He will not sign autograph books. We had his autograph from Chef Mickey's so we didn't even get our kid's books out but the family behind us started getting their kids ready and a Donald's handler told them that Donald does not sign. He told them to go to Camp Minnie Mickey if that needed his autograph.

We were there for Thanksgiving week 2009 and we were very disappointed! We started in the waiting area which was really close to the smoking area (I heard that may have been temporary- I hope so). My son is asthmatic and smoke is a huge trigger for him, so we were trying to get him just inside the doors to get out of the smoke when our pager went off. Then, we were directed to stand in line (once again outside with the smoke) for a picture with Donald. In the midst of this confusion we didn't get our camera out. So, we ended up with no picture with Donald since we didn't like the picture they offered to sell us and didn't want to pay extra anyway. Thankfully, we did get a picture with him at another meal, though. It was just disappointing that at Donald's breakfast we didn't get a photo with him. We also didn't get a signature, but to be honest, we didn't have our books out because everything happened so quickly and we were so stressed about our son's asthma. We did assume that we would see Donald inside and were very disappointed when that didn't happen. We are headed back to Disney again in about a month and this was one reservation that we weren't interested in making for our upcoming trip.

We were at Tusker House in Dec 2009, and loved the breakfast buffet and the experience. It was true about Donald - he was only out in front. However, toward the end of the breakfast Donald was still out front but less busy and DS13 and DH went out and took, with our cameras, a bunch of fun pictures. And signature I think. So it worked out ok in terms of Donald exposure:)
