We booked this excursion ourselves - can anyone else tell me if they've done this if personal cameras (water ones) were allowed in with the dolphins? My DH is also concerned that they won't let him wear his glasses. Is this true?

TIA!

I don't know if this is what you're talking about, but I did the dolphin swim on Blue Lagoon Island when I stayed at the Atlantis, and my parents were allowed to bring their own cameras, provided they take the pictures behind a certain point. The pictures came out fine, BTW.

I am not sure if you're allowed to bring a camera in the water with you, I don't think it is though.

When I did the Dolphin swim at Blue lagoon we were allowed to both wear our glasses and bring underwater cameras, now this was a few years ago. I did take of my glasses for the dolphin push as I was afraid they wouldnt stay on. Hope this helps.

Can you tell me how your Blue Lagoon experience was overall? MY DH will be doing the Dolphin Encounter but the kids and I will be hanging out at the beach (DD 5, DS 6). I plan on doing the DC excursion.

I loved the Blue Lagoon Experience. I wrote about it in my trip report dated 10/12/03. I thought the island was very beautiful. Most people went to the left after getting off the ferry. I would suggest you go to the right. There were less people on that beach and you will have more access to the hammocks.

Also, after the Dolphin Encounter, which we did, there are benches where you can sit and have lunch or a snack. The place clears out when the encounters are over and you have the place to yourself. I would love to go back to Blue Lagoon one day.

My 2 DD's (at the time ages 9 and 14) and I did the Dolphin Swim
at Blue Lagoon. We did the Blue Lagoon Beach day through DCL and I booked the Swim myself through the Dolphin Encounters web site. We spent the morning at the Blue Lagoon Beach (I read and the DD's spent the whole day swimming) and we did the Dolphin Swim after lunch. They had an awsome time! I am a bit more hesitant, and despite life jackets, I am not a strong swimmer and was very nervous. The girls were able to do a "foot push" with the dolphin, which actually pushed them across the lagoon as they were lying on their stomachs. It was almost like body surfing. I did not do this, but was able to get great pictures with my waterproof disposable camera. I also purchased close ups of each of the girls being "kissed" by dolphin. The whole experience will be a life time memory for each of us!

What a great experience it was...worth the money! DEFINITELY take an underwater camera. I was an idiot and didn't think of it, so we paid out the bottlenose for the video and photos. But we got to do everything twice since we were last and they knew we were on our honeymoon. Have fun!

I have just one question - since you booked the Blue Lagoon excursion through Disney is it a short walking distance then to the dolphin encounter? I'm worried about how to get to the island on my own but my problem is solved IF I book this excursion right? Do you remember the times involved? Disneycruise.com indicates that departure is at 9:15 a.m. for 4 to 7 hours. I believe our encounter is at 2:00. I'd hate to be stuck there & not be able to get back to the ship.

HELP!

You should have no trouble getting back on the ferry after the encounter. I believe there is a ferry at 2pm and 4:00 or 4:30pm. You will have to catch the later ferry. I would suggest you go over to the island earlier than your 2pm appointment and spend some time on the beach.

If you book through Disney, they walk you to the ferry and tell you how to get back. They also serve a lunch on the island. (not sure if it is any good, didn't eat).

I really wanted to book through Disney because we needed the earlier appointments with the children. IF you don't care what time your Dolphin Encounter is scheduled, then scheduling yourself will save you quite a few dollars. Disney has the monopoly on the 9:15 and 12:30 appointments...that is why your appointment is booked later in the day.

It is about a 1/2 mile walk to the ferry, probably less. My 4 1/2 year old had no trouble walking there but was a little tired walking back. He made it though!

Once you get off the ferry, you walk a little ways down the beach to the encounter...maybe 1/4 mile, probably less.

Hope that helps.

We took the early ferry over for the Blue Lagoon Beach day (through DCL), spent the day at the beach, had lunch (only OK) and then walked over to the Dolphin Encounter. It is only a short walk over a wooden bridge. We did have to run to catch the last ferry (I think 4:00) because we spent too much time waiting for the pictures we wanted to be ready and then paying for them. The ferry ride was nice, and the walk to the ferry wasn't too bad. You are inundated with hairbraiders and vendors on your way to the ferry, but basically kept saying "No thank-you!"
