Dolphin encounter in Cozumel - Question

Hi All-

Dh, dd, and I are booked on the 10:20 excursion. Does anyone know what time that gets us back to the port? Can we stay at Chankanaab and get our own transportation back, or do we have to go back with the group?

We did the actual "Dolphin Swim" at Chankanaab booked through shoretrips.com. It was less money and we had much more freedom to get there and back on our own. We took a taxi ($10.00) each way and had no problem getting there and back. There are a zillion taxis around Cozumel! We were very happy with our experience - you may want to consider this. I did Disney Excursions for our first cruise and for the second I learned to book my own!

Thanks for the tip! I just checked out the shoretrips web site in regards to the dolphin encounter. Looks like fun! I do have a few questions:

Are the dolphins in open water or is it a tank? (any danger of sharks?!?!?!)

It says that kids under 8 aren't allowed...I understand they cannot participate, but can young children watch or have any contact with the dolphins - perhaps pet them?

What else is there to do at Chankanaab?

cricket538- You can also book directly with the company located at Chankanaab Park. It's www.dolphindiscovery.com . Young children can do the Dolphin Encounter. The entire group gets into the water and stands on a submerged platform ( this is for both the encounter and the swim). In the encounter the guide brings the dolphin to you for a pet, kiss and hug, think receiving line at a party. In the swim you swim out into the water and the dolphins interact with you ( a pull, a push and some jumping over).

You can a should spend some time there. They have another excursion involving Sea Lions as well as a great snorkling beach a large protected area for young kids to play in sand and beach and a restaurant and bar on the beach. There are many, many taxis waiting at the entrance to take you back to your ship. The price when we last were there was 10.00 for up to 4 in a taxicab and 16.00 for up to 4 in a taxi-minivan.

The dolphin area are huge corals. They are fenced off, but you will see many small fish in the water...Mark
