new to this area of the boards. I researched this trip last year but have misplaced all my info.

My quesiton is about dolphin cove....my 8 year old desparately wants to "pet" a dolphin. Is this possible? Also I would like to get her picture with it. Not sure if this is doable or not. Can anyone help?

I don't know if it's called dolphin cove but the dolphin feeding area is where you get to pet dolphins. You have to buy a tray of fish ($7 I think) per person to get in and you get to feed them and pet them. It really is truly amazing. You can get pics yourself of DD petting/feeding them but they also have stealthy photogs that take pics that you can purchase afterwards. I got some really great shots myself of the whole family petting them last year. Make sure you go first thing so it won't be too crowded and I think that's when the dolphins are most active. HTH! Enjoy!!!!

The above post is about an area in seaworld. Discovery Cove is a whole separate park where you have the option of buying a "dolphin experience" where you actually go in the water with them...see the sticky above-- there's lot of info. We're going there is year for the first time!:banana:

Yes - you must buy fish, and then you have about 5 minutes to feed and pet the dolphins

You can touch (briefly) their snouts. It is not like Discovery Cove, though, where you wade in the water with them. Still fun though!

Sounds like there's come confusion between SW and DC. You can feed the dolphins at SW.

Here a pix of my DD (then 8) during her Dolphin experience at DC. So much better than feeding them!;) If you go to DC your DD can feed the rays while in the pool-very cool! (at no extra cost, btw)

Another option you have at Sea World is doing the Dolphins Up Close tour. Our family did it last week it was $50 per adult and $40 children 3-9 years old. It was pricey, but turned out to be a highlight of our trip.

We started out with a backstage look at Blue Horizons where we got an up close look at some of the training that goes on behind the scenes, and while we were there they were working with the false killer whale which was cool because that was my sons favorite part of the show.

We then got to see there animal care unit where they bring in new or injured dolphins. It's also right next to the manatee area for that as well so you get a peek at that as well.

Then we went over to Dolphin Cove and were broken up in to small groups (seemed like by family) and a trainer showed us things they do to work with the dolphins. All the while we had plenty of chances to touch, pet, and give rub downs to our dolphin.

The whole tour only lasted about 30 minutes, but the price to value ratio seemed worth it.

Be careful though, all this did was make my wife want to do Discovery Cove on our next trip, that means I'm gonna have to do some extra over time come next fall
