Awhile back I read that they were going to build a Dixie Stampede in Orlando. That's one of those dinner show attractions with horses, etc. There are several of these now (Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach, etc.) These are owned by the people who own Dollywood. Maybe this is what you are referring to? Don't know the current status of the project.
I agree it's probably the Dixie Stampede, owned by Dolly Parton Productions. I found this old article about the development and it says opening in 2001. Not sure where the project stands.
"Gaylord Entertainment decided to close the Opryland theme park in 1997 because the 25-year-old attraction's attendance was declining," according to at Tennessean.com.
The former Opryland theme park in Tennessee is now the the site of the Opry Mills mall, which opened in opened in May 2000. The whole complex, including the Grand Ole Opry and the original Opryland Hotel, is still called Opryland.
That hotel is huge! You can't miss driving on 1-4 after you pass the Downtown Disney area. I heard that the hotel is completely finished, but it won't open until the Orange County Convention Center expansion is finished sometime in 2003.
The Opryland Hotel Florida is scheduled to open during the first quarter of 2002. They're already taking reservations at http://www.oprylandflorida.com/ -- where you can also read more about the massive, 1,400-room hotel.
This is an interesting thread in that it's gone all over the place -- Dollywood, Opryland Hotel Florida, Opryland in Nashville, and the Dixie Stampede. Dollywood and the Dixie Stampede are related in that the Dixie Stampede is "a DollyWood Production" in Pigeon Forge, TN; Myrtle Beach, SC; Branson, M0; and, one of these days, at a location on Interstate 4 between WDW and Universal. The Opryland Hotel Florida and Opryland in Nashville are related.
But Dollywood and Opryland are not related, except through their country music roots.
