Dollar rental cars -- anyone get a Dodge Magnum before?

I actually have two reservations with Dollar right now for my trip next week (yes, the agent told me it is OK). I have a premium reserved which is a described as a Chrysler Pacifica or similar and a full size described as a Dodge Magnum or similar (Ford Taurus). I really can't fit my stuff (including a big stroller) in a Taurus, so I'm hoping they have a lot of Magnums. Does anyone have experience getting a full-sized car from Dollar? Did you get a Magnum or a Taurus?

I got a good price for the premium, too, but the full size is about $50 less, so I'm hoping for that Magnum!

I don't have an answer for you, but I also have a full-sized reserved and am hoping for a Magnum rather than Taurus. I actually went to a local Dodge dealership to check out the Magnum and make sure it would hold our luggage and it seems really big in the back. I'll be watching for answers from those "in the know." ;)

What is with the Ford Taurus reference. I have one booked for next April and it says Dodge Magnum with Ford Taurus in parenthesis. My husband laughed at me and said, they probably have one Dodge Magnum and a whole fleet of Ford Taurus's that were bought from the Ford Company when they quit making them and no one wanted to buy them.

So I think I may upgrade today.

My family and I used Dollar in Jan. this year and had a full sized reserved also. My hubby wanted the Magnum so bad (just to try it out) and we got the Taurus. It did have a good sized trunk though. We had 2 BIG suitcases 2 mediums and one small. We did not see any Magnums in the lot that day. Hope this helps!

My mom rented a Dodge Magnum here in Ohio about a month ago. Plenty of space too. You will be happy with it if you can get one.

That's what I'm thinking, too. That's why I have a Pacifica reserved, too. I don't think my stroller AND luggage will fit in the trunk of a Taurus. The lady from Dollar is actually the one who told me to make two reservations (one in my name and one in Dh's). I have good prices for each and we'll see what happens when we get there.

DH and I have gotten a Magnum from Dollar before (albeit in Burbank) and yes, it will hold a lot of stuff. One word of warning though, it is difficult to park (and we have an SUV!) due to the fact it is difficult to see out of on the sides and rear (windows are small). When we went back later that year they offered us a "free upgrade" to a Magnum and we refused. :rolleyes1

We rented from Dollar (MCO) this past Feb.and DH was really disappointed that our Magnum turned out to be a Taurus too! :sad2: Now everytime he sees a Magnum at home he says "there goes my car!" :sad2:
We never noticed any Magnums at MCO and that's why for our upcoming trip back to Orlando we have taken an intermediate car.But if we could guarantee a Magnum we would gladly grab one. :thumbsup2

According to Ford's website they still make the Taurus for fleets only. That's why you see so many rental Taurus--that's what they're still produced for.

We try to avoid them if at all possible. We have had a Taurus twice and didn't like it at all. But unfortunately most of the on-site rental companies at MCO use lots and lots of Tauruses!! Boo hiss!!

I just rented from Dollar at MCO August 27-Sept.1 . They gave me a choice at the counter between the Taurus and Magnum, so I took the Magnum. Plenty of space. Easy to drive. It had about 8500 miles on it. So they definitely have some, not sure how many.

I don't want a Taurus, so I'm now going to rent a premium car from Alamo and hope I get a pacifica (last time I got one and I had reserved a mid-SUV, so I'm hoping I'll get on if I reserve a premium). The price for a premium from Alamo was actually less then with Dollar. I can't risk ending up with a darn Taurus!!

Yep, another case of intresting marketing. Im what some may call a "rental enthusiest" so every time I rent (usually every month or two) I always make it a point to give myself 20 mins or so to walk around on the lot and check out what vehicles are in each companies fleet. Needless to say, of the 40 or so Fullsize vehicles, ive only seen around 4 Dodge Magnum's! The rest are Impala's or the demon car. Ive noticed that Hertz and Avis often have Magnums though. You might want to go with a premium class vehicle which is often a 300 C base model which will give you tons of trunk space and people space too....

Boo, boo on my part. My husband is a GM guy, and he knew Ford did this, but he thought the Taurus line was done. I blame it on him.
