I keep reading about Dollar Express which sounds really good but I'm not sure if I can use it. I'm renting the car as part of a fly drive through Virgin, Ive never done this before so have no idea how it works. Can I still apply for an express card and can I use it at the airport when getting the car through a flydrive? :confused3

Jen as long as you have a hire car from Dollar you can use dollar express regardless of who you got the flights with! :)

If you booked your fly drive through Virgin Holidays they have a dedicated desk at Orlando anyway, which can help to avoid most of the queues.

I applied for Dollar Express before our 2007 trip and intended to use it but got told to go to the specific VH desk which had a stupidly long queue and no separate express desk, I guess I should have questioned it but after the long flight I wasn't really in the mood! We ended up waiting ages :headache: I know others have managed to use express with a VH booking though :confused3 Actually used Dollar Express (usrentacar booking) in San Francisco last year (city centre garage not airport) and waited ages that time aswell, think we're just unlucky! Chosen to use Budget this year and have 2 sets of car hire so will see how that goes.

Thanks Guys :thumbsup2

Just to be clear, when I get to MCO I queue up at the Virgin desk and they will sort out the car? I don't need to get in the Dollar queue at any point?

If your flying Virgin Atlantic then you go to the dollar desk, there is a section for the dollar express line,
sorry dont know about Virgin Holidays

If it's a flydrive I would imagine it's the Virgin Holidays desk you'll need. I'd still try and see if using express there helps, might have changed since 07 :)

Worth doing :thumbsup2

Doesn't speed up the queue as you'd have to queue at Virgin Desk but it speeded up the process with the advisor as we needed to give less details (you enter name, license and address details when applying for express card)

Used dollar express last month after booking a fly drive through virgin atlantic, it speeded up the booking process slightly but the main benefit was that it bypassed the massive queue that was at the dollar desk. While we were in the queue someone moved us to the virgin holidays desk but when they realised the booking was through virgin atlantic they said we had to go back to the dollar desk. Only cost us 5 mins in lost time but it wasn't fun being dragged around

You must be an express member and book thro dollar.com to use dollar express lane. As has been said before when you book a flydrive with VH you will use the dedicated desk.

If you have not signed up for dollar express and book any other way you unfortunately need to use the regular (usually long) line

David :)

It also works with a booking made through Dollar's UK site although there is no way of linking your booking to your express number unless you email (I didnt bother last time and its was still ok)

I don't think that is correct. I have read of people on here that have booked a car through US Rentacar and have still used their express card.

That is correct you can use any company like USrentacar or Netflights for example and use Dollar Express. I have never booked thru Dollar.com but used Express many times.
As for VH and Express its mixed results, I was behind DISWolves, Nigel in Express line 2 years ago and they would not serve him he had to goto VH dedicated desks. Some have used express line, some have got to front of VH line using Express, all down to staff on the day I believe.
I thought Virgin were not using Dollar anymore and using Alamo:confused3

When you enroll for Dollar Express you are asked to give preferences for things like LDW. I never know whether to accept or decline because I've already bought it when I prepaid for the car hire in the UK and I don't want to be charged for it a second time. On the other hand I don't want to decline and find I'm not covered.

I did actually once get charged twice for LDW (by National - got the money back in the end but after a long wrangle) which is why I am cautious.

Anyone any idea what is the right thing to do?

Just decline the insurance as you already bought it here, (check that you are fully covered )and they will know that when you hand your voucher over!
