1st time in June...

What do I need to know...
How long to expect in lines...
Keeping cool...

Everything, please:)

We went to WDW in June last year. We were down there from 6/7-6/15. It was definitely emptier the beginning of our trip. We subscribed to Tour Guide Mike and had a fantastic time. We were at each park about 30 minutes before rope drop. It was the best thing we did! We always got our fast passes in the a.m. We left the park around lunchtime or right after lunch and swam and napped. We returned to the same park that we went to in the morning and enjoyed using our fast passes (you can use them even though the time has expired). We stocked up on FP in the a.m. and loved walking onto rides in the p.m. We saw tons of characters. We used Steve Soares site to scope out the characters and their times. We used the Creative DISigns thread and had matching outfits which made for great pictures. We did the dining plan and planned our sit down meal around our park for the day. We generally stayed at the park until 9-10ish. We saw everything and didn't get too hot. The midday swim and nap really re-energized us. We had a plan and stuck to it. We had an awesome trip!

We have gone twice now in June and it wasn't bad at all. With fast passes I doubt we ever stood in line for more than 20 min and that wasn't often.

We go in June. It is hot. Get some of those Neck Cooling things. I prefer just a wet bandana around my neck. They help cool down your body temp.

I love June. The earlier in the month you can go the better.

I use the neck cooling bandanas to keep cool but plenty of people use fan misters. I figure I get sprayed enough from people who use them but don't aim well so I don't need one of my own. :rotfl:

The rain: yes it does rain nearly every afternoon the week we go but we just put on our ponchos and keep on going. Alot of people leave so the lines get shorter for everything.

The lines: We use fastpasses alot and follow TGM's best days for which park and it worked great. The only day on our last June trip that we didn't follow his plan, it was crazy. The lines can get long from about 11am on so you just have to plan for that.

The food: If you are doing CS, we found it was always better to eat early. The lines for CS food stayed busy all day but if we got there right when places opened, we had hot quick food and plenty of choices of where to sit and eat.

Star Wars Weekends: If you go to DHS on those weekends, they will be crowded. But if you want to see the special 10am Star Wars parade and do the other special Star Wars stuff, it's the only way you can do it. We planned our day carefully, got fastpasses and had a great time.

I love going in June and we'll be going in June 09. We just couldn't go as early in the month as I normally like but it'll still be fun anyway.

It is very hot
It is very rainy and thunderstorms everyday
It is super crowded so start early and take breaks. Take advantage of any and all EMH you can
Be patient
Make sure you have ADRs

I would have to second this advice. We go in the summer every year. This past June was the first year we used Tour Guide Mike and followed his "least crowded parks" advice. (also touringplans dot com is another service that tells you the least crowded days). We got there when the park opened (usually we would meander in around 1030) and we never waited the while time more than 15 minutes for anything. We maximized FPs and had a wonderful trip. We went June 15-25.

Would someone be kind enough to clarify, "hot?"

Are we talking 100 degrees hot? 110? Or is it the humidity that is the killer?

I wouldnt say 100 degrees HOT. We have been 4 Junes/Julys in a row and it was never 100. The temps seemed to be between 85 and 90 every day but there was always a shower btween 2 and 3pm (no kidding, you could set your watch by it) that kind of cooled things off.

We went to the parks when they opened and stayed till around 1pm. Then we went back to the room and took a nap, sometimes DH showered if he had been sweating a lot, we went swimming, etc. Then we went back to the parks about 4 or 5 pm when it was starting to get a bit cooler.

Also another thing we tried to do was mix up the inside and outside attractions. If we did 2 outside things, we did an inside show or something to kind of cool off.

We have been twice in June. The first time, we tried burning the candle and both ends. Up early, rest, up late, up early, etc. Not the way to go for us. We had a MUCH better time the second June trip when we slept in, did the pool all afternoon, cleaned up, then to the parks and stayed until closing. Of course you will miss some things that way and fastpasses are sometimes gone by that time. We are not morning people and this way was much more pleasant for our kids. We felt like we didn't enjoy the pools and the resort the first time, but this time we really took advantage of what the resort offered. We still did everything we wanted to do at the parks. The earliest we went to a park was about 3:00. Then we could enjoy an early sit down meal then hit the rides after. My kids were 5 and 10 at the time. This is the plan of attack for our trip next June too.

As far as the heat, it was around 90 everyday. The humidity is the killer. You just can't cool down without going into air conditioned places. It is much better in the evenings after the sun goes down. This is another reason that daytime doesn't work as well for us. It gets hot pretty early in the morning. But June is an annual thing for us now, and the heat really isn't what you remember after you return home!

Good luck!
Angie

Keep them coming....

My parents want to give us a gift of a trip w/them, sister & family & me & my family.... but in June.

My husband is worried about the heat & 2 hour lines. I tell him they are paying for the flight & rooms - why not go?

Is it really going to be 2 hour lines? (June 9-16) Or can we go early, ride & get fast passes for later and not have long lines?

Give me all the dirt, please....

DRINK! We had a rule, everytime we passed a fountain, get a drink. So easy to dehyrdrate in June. I think hot and crowded explains it all. We were there for the Fathers Day week in 2007. Luckily it didnt rain for us once.
Heres a pic of MK I took on our June trip. Maybe this will give you an idea? I would go again in June for sure... jsut do some things differently than last time. Now I know the game, waterparks, EMHs, fastpasses, and plenty of water... nothing like getting sick in the happiest place on earth.

hi - we brought an extra pair of shoes - sandels - flip flops w/us because after the rain the shoes can be wet - and having wet feet can be hurtful - but having a change made all the difference in continuing the day - and it's refreshing -

Patience is a must. Don't try to see everything in one day..it can't be done. Good shoes are a must. Take breaks during the day. Go back to the room (if possible) and rest, even if you don't take a nap. We like to go to the parks and come back and swim and have a bite to eat in the room. That definitely helps when you have smaller kids. And it also helps you keep from wanting to smack somebody senseless when they nag you for one more thing or buy me this, etc:goodvibes It's no fun for anyone when you force a child to go on another ride or whatever when they are exhausted.

We went for a long weekend about the middle of June last year. The weather was crazy-85 for the highs, only 1 thunderstorm in all 4 days, and the humidity was almost nonexistant! We went to the AK Fri. morning for EMH and stayed until 2:30. That is unheard of because of how hot that park gets with the humidity. We hardly broke a sweat. It was a little slice of heaven in Florida in June. We are hoping for a repeat in 2009.
