Doing the math in anticipation of upcoming discounts. What am I missing?

I currently have a package booked for the Summer QS meal. I actually used that QS meal deal toward the DDP which credited over $17 per adult, per night, toward it (not sure about the child's). My current package is for 2 adults & 1 child @ POP in a Preferred room (that's all that was available when I booked) at a cost of $1878, including tax and the 1 QS meal a day, from 6/12-6/17. When I upgraded to the DDP, the cost is $2384-so basically about $500 to upgrade from the included 1 QS to DDP.

In doing the math, it seems I'd have to score a significant room discount (30%?) to make it worth my while to change my package? Am I figuring that correctly?:surfweb:

Does that also include tickets?

I don't think you will be able to accurately compare any discounts, it will be an apples to oranges discussion.

Nobody really knows how much the dining plan will save or perhaps cost you. It will depend on your taste and choices. Will you pick the most expensive food every mean or the cheapest? Will you still get the snack everyday if you aren't on the dining plan? Etc, etc, etc......

I understand what you're saying, but I'm basically paying $100/day for 2 adults and 1 child for a Our meals, snacks, and refillable mug. Doubt we'll need anything much above and beyond what's included, so I think it's a decent deal. I just don't think anything they come out with will beat it.

Not quite $100/day for food...you need to add the tip from every TS...assuming $100/meal ($30/entree, $10/dessert, $3 beverage plus $11 kid meal or 3 buffets), that would be roughly another $18 per day. If you don't want to eat a daily TS, you could do better...

Yes. I haven't taken it off the table to forgo the DDP altogether and save on food in general. I guess I just have to see what summer offers there are and go from there.

So I priced it out for your dates.

Regular room price plus paying for the dining plan is $2516, so you're really saving $132 over rack rate (however this is for standard, not preferred room)

The room price itself is $804, so a 20% discount would be $160. (So if you wanted to get a room discount and pay for the dining plan it would be about the same as your current price-- $2356)

The package without dining is $1793 or $1633 with the 20% discount.
That's $751 less than the package you currently have.

I think what it really comes down to is if you think you're going to spend more than $751 ($841 w/ tip another poster mentioned) on food in 5 days or if you just really like the convenience of the dining plan.

Perfect. I spent last night doing this same scenario and came up with the same. That's exactly what I was looking for. Now the question will be if they offer 20% discount. Thank-you so much for spending that time doing that!

I just looked up the current offer (through June 11) and the values are at 15% (which would be $120 rather than $160 discount) but they're also offering the 5th day on the ticket for free ($32 in your case) so it about evens out. Deluxe are usually 30% off and they're only 25% so it looks like they may have cut back on the discounts this year.

Current offer ends March 31, so the summer offer should be out around the end of this month.

My family prefers to snack around so it's always cheaper for us to pay for food and get a room discount, but I know others (like my parents) like to do at least one TS meal per day, eat desserts, etc so the free dining is a good deal for them since they would purchase the dining plan regardless.
