Doing taxes on-line???

We did our taxes on-line this year for the first time. Saved us about $100. Anyway, we did it on tax slayer and sent them in. Then just for the fun of it, I put in all of our info at turbo tax and they said that we should get back $98 more than we will with tax slayer. For our state taxes, it was the same for both. Anyone that has experience with doing them on-line--if the rebate is incorrect on what was sent in at tax slayer, will it be corrected by the government before they send our rebate? Has anyone's rebate ever changed from what your on-line tax service said it would be? I don't know which was correct but I'd like to get that extra $98 if I am supposed to get it.

Thanks!

It shouldn't be incorrect, did you actually walk through the form to see where the differences were? Did you miss key something in one form or another, add a deduction/credit where you missed it on another form?

That's my instinct as well - perhaps TurboTax prompted your for some extra information that would earn you that extra refund.

The government does correct errors and sends updated bills, I know; I assume that if the error is in the taxpayer's favor they send some notification of that, at least.

We made a mistake on our taxes last year, and the IRS mailed us a note explaining the mistake and a check for the difference. Perhaps you will get one as well?

Ours was very simple since we didn't get to itemize. Just took the standard deduction. I went back and checked all my numbers b/c my son said he did the same thing and came up with the very same rebate on both of them. The only thing that I couldn't put in on Turbotax was about $20 worth of interest that we received from the bank. I couldn't find a place to put it. I wouldn't think that would make that big of a difference though. Who knows ? I guess we will just see what happens. We will never know which one was right anyway.

Maybe I'll try it again tonight just to see if I get the same thing. Maybe I DIDN'T check it as well as I should have. ;-)

Thanks.

I did mine on Taxact and it said I would get $3800 federal refund and have to pay $300 in state taxes. I decided to try H&R Block, which said I would get $4400 federal refund and $370 refund in state. My taxes aren't very complicated(although I did get a big credit for the tuition I paid in 2010); I take the standard deduction and only have one child. I filed through H&R Block, because who can't use a bigger refund?

I do mine online every year but I do them in 3 different programs to make sure I get the best refund

This is what we will do next year. Our son told us to do both taxslayer and turbotax and make sure before we filed but we didn't. We just went with the one he said he ended up going with. Learned our lesson.

I did go back and put our info in turbotax again and it said the same thing as it did last night. Not sure what the difference is. Might try taxact too to see what they say-- or maybe I shouldn't.
