Doing Disney with Cloth Diapers - Anyone done this?

We will be doing Disney for 5 nights in September with a 1 and 2 year old. They use cloth diaper and we wanted to know if anyone has had any experiences with this? How was it using them in the parks, etc.

Also we will be staying on property (WL) and we read that there are laundry services on site, but if anyone can tell us what type of coins it uses. (quarters, tokens from coin-op machine, etc.)

I plan to use cloth on this vacation. with my 3y/o (night diapers only) and my 12 month old. I have stash of all in one's that i've been collecting over the past 6 months for vacation. I have about 14 of them so enough that i can wash each evening when we get back to our resort (w/ washer/dryer in our room). I do plan to also buy some eco desposable diapers "just incase" b/c i dont want to be suck doing diaper laundry every night if i don't want to while on vacation!

It wouldn't be my cup of tea, but I don't see why you couldn't do it. People have been using cloth diapers for a long time, and taking vacations at least as long (where do you think all those babies come from? ) I vividly remember my mother hanging up diapers on the clothesline while on a two-week camping trip--no running water or flush toilets,either. She would have thought she had died & gone to heaven if there was a nearby bathtub to rinse those nappies in.

So take your bag of quarters and your Dreft, and ya'll just have a big ol' hoe-down in the laundry room after the kids are in bed. It might be a lot of fun, if you bring over a pitcher of margaritas

Thanks for everyone's input, however we cannot use disposables because of our daughter's sensitive skin. (disposables cause her breakout).

So if anyone has any experiences within the past year or so that they could relate to us, that would very appreciated.

I wonder if perhaps you could arrange with a local diaper service for the week you are there?? I don't know if that would be easier or not.

I used cloth with my son until about 13 months. We traveled a few times with him in cloth, but we were always staying with someone and just used their washer and dryer.

Have ever tried the eco frinedly diapers that don't have all the "gross" stuff in them and see if they break her out as well? I would say that AIO's would be the way to go, we them when on short weekend trips to relatives and friends houses. I always wash there too, they dont' see to mind at all. As for in the parks i'm not to worried it can fit about 5 diapers in my dirty diaper bag so that will work for a day out...

I just noticed that my Target has Chlorine Free Diapers. I can't remember the brand, but it might be the store brand. That might work for you. Otherwise, I reccomend checking out the diaper service.

If you want to lug them through the park I don't see why it wouldn't work.

A friend of mine is really into cloth diapers and uses both while on vacations including trips to Disneyland and DisneyWorld.


I say bring your wet bag and go for it unless the cholrine free ones might be better on her skin. I would probalby think that covers and prefolds would be better space wise on what you gotta carry in the park. Since you can use the covers again unless soiled. Or alternate to let them air out in between. Iwould think that AIO's would be more work since its more to lug. My friend that sometimes uses them would use covers and prefolds as well. You can probably fit 2-3 covers and 8 prefolds in the space you'd put 6 AIOs. Just a thought.

I wanted to cloth diaper just because I like them and the cost. DD is fine in sposies but I was told I couldn't buy anymore. I gave the ones I had to my friend. Next time I'm doing cloth. But to be honest I would use sposies if I went unless my child could not wear anything else.

I would probably say bring enough for 2-3 WHOLE days and then you can just do laundry once or twice while there.

We are way past diaper age, but I did laundry one day. The machines take quarters, but plan on spending a small fortune to wash diapers every day. It is $2 to wash and $2 to dry each load. They have change machines available.

We use cloth diapers exclusively for our 8-month-old son and will continue to use them at WDW in November. I even have Disney covers for the occasion (Buzz Lightyear, 101 Dalmatians, Dumbo, Mickey, DONALD DUCK!!! and I'm looking for Pooh right now)! Our plan is to take as many diapers as we'll need for 2 days and wash every other day. It shouldn't be hard to do with the laundry facilities onsite. I will prepackage quarters and small containers of our regular detergent (someone mentioned Dreft but I'm sure you know that is a no-no for diapers, eek! ) so we won't have to mess with anything while there. Honestly, I haven't given it a second thought. We never use disposables for any reason so I didn't consider it at all for our trip. We haven't done Disney parks in cloth, but we DID bring him to Florida and hit DTD in February using cloth and all was well. Just make sure you have a wetbag large enough for your dirties and perhaps drop off/refill when you take your afternoon break, if you go that route! PM me if you wanna chat about CDs or anything else!

Each of the major four theme parks has a wonderful and I mean wonderful baby station. They have many changing tables, rocking chairs and all sorts of neat stuff for moms and babies. I'm sure that you could rinse out your diapers there, and then ziplock bag them up until you get back to the hotel. You could even store them in a locker if you don't want to tote the dirty ones around all day. Just don't forget to pick them up! Personally, I'm not a fan of cloth diapers, but I understand that many babies cannot use the disposable type.

You know I just had a thought...do you use a diaper service at home? If so, they must also be available in Orlando. Could you have your service scheduled to be delivered to your resort on the day you arrive? I'm not sure how this would entirely work, but man, then they could come and pick up the dirty ones at the end of the week and save you a bundle of work!

It shouldn't be hard to do with the laundry facilities onsite.

Be sure to bring PLENTY of diapers. I've had to wait for washing machines (even at odd hours) at onsite resorts, and diapers -- unlike tee shirts -- are something for which you just can't wait. Our last trip was to WL, and the laundry room is woefully small for the size of the resort. I'm thinking it was something like eight washers total?

If you're going to do diapers several times during the vacation, this might be a good trip to consider a condo with a washer/dryer of "your own".

Have you tried Seventh Generation diapers? They're AWESOME and darn near hypo-allergenic. If you call the company (they have a website) they'll send you a few to try...plus some good coupons.

That's what we use in Disney

We have also done cloth - most hotels (even offsite) have washers and dryers. Just bring your wet bag, stash the dirty ones in a backpack, and wash at the end of the day. It isn't that bad - especially with kids that age because you're stopping for naps midday most of the time anyway.

We brought our Fuzzibunz the first trip and had no problems at all.

We vacationed at the All Star Music a few years ago with some friends. I did laundry while the rest of our party swam and the washers and dryers were very hard to come by. There are not very many to go around. I think it is only 8 or so!

I waited a half hour for someone to come and empty their wet clothes out of a washer I needed, and finnaly another woman said "well, honey if you arn't going to do it, I AM!" and she took the clothes out of two washers that had been sitting ready to unload for a long time and ploped the wet clothes on a folding table. I took one machine and she took the other and just as she was starting to say "see how easy that was?" here comes the "laundry abandoner" to scream and yell at me, because she saw me using one of her machines and she thought I had thrown her clean wet clothes out....OH WHAT A MESS!

I just stood there stunned while these two women screamed at each other

Talk about the happiest place on earth

I'd go with a diaper service. Maybe call the resort and see if they offer help with it. It might be a little more expensive than at home, but I think it would be worth it not spending precious vacation time in a laundry room.

Just to let you know that the driers at the resorts take several runs to dry the clothes. It seems that for every load of laundry, you have to run the drier for 2-3 cycles. That is alot of quarters and time.

Yikes! Screaming over laundry on vacation? What a couple of gems!

Just wanted to point out that if a child is very sensitive, to the point that disposables are a no-no, a diaper service won't be helpful...they use TONS of detergent, etc. to sanitize the diapers since they are going from butt to butt (gross enough in itself, IMO). I would not use those on my son because he'd break out in a huge rash from the chemicals. And you have absolutely NO guarantee that they are truly clean, either.
