Dog Owners- what tags does your dog wear?

Just thought I'd toss this out here -- because of our semi-rural location, we often find "strays" in our yard. Part of our usual routine is to take the dog to the vet to see if (by some miracle) they're microchipped. One time, nothing came up. When we did find the owner, and mentioned microchipping, she said the dog actually was chipped, but possible didn't register because the dog was so overweight.

I asked the vet, and they suggested it could be because sometimes the chips "migrate" in the body -- the vet said her cat's ended up by a leg! :scared1:

Our dog is chipped, but also wears tags just in case.

In most places are rabies tags separate from town/ parish/ county tags?
Ours are one tag we get from the vet who gets the tags through the parish.

We aren't required to have a city/town tag. The rabies tag is all that is required here.

Nothing. I can't use a traditional collar on one of our pugs so I use nothing on all four. With that said when they go some where they have a harness on ( never a collar) but without tags. They annoy the crap out me so I can only imagine how annoying they must be for the dog.

My SIL has two dogs she takes hunting. They can't have tags that make noise. She has collars that you fill in all of their information onto the actual collar.

My DD puts a rubber hair tie around her dog's tags so they don't jingle ~ works like a charm :)

Yes, our rabies tag and registration are from the parish ( county) but it's one tag.

I got two rabies tags - one says the parish and the other says national. :confused3 She also has a tag with her name and two phone numbers for me.

The vet gave me the rabies tags when she got the shot, but I went to a vet within my parish. What happens if I go to a vet in another parish? Would they give me tags for my home address or for the vet? Do you know? :confused3

Ours wear both rabies and ID tags. At least with the jingling we always know where they are. After a bath, while they are drying, we always call them ninja dogs. You don't realize how much noise those tags make until they are off!

Same here, it's so funny when their collars are off!

I've seen the tag bags in the pet store but commented to my husband that I love the sound of their tags jingling! :rotfl: Ours just have their rabies tags and id tags on.

I like the tags making noise. Gives us an idea of what/where our chocolate lab is up to.

At night you know he is coming when you call also.

Oh, just rabies and the ID tag for him

Name and phone number tag, Rabies tag, and a microchip tag showing that she has an implanted microchip in case she becomes lost.

Same for adult DD's dog..

We also prefer the "jingle" if for some reason he got loose up here in the mountains.. Even if he were to become stuck somewhere, we could locate him by the "jingle" while he was squirming around trying to get loose..:goodvibes

All our dogs are microchipped and the horse too..I had heard about the chips migrating sometimes so who knows if they all are actually still able to be detected..hopefully we'll never have to find out. The vet out here comes to the house so doesn't have the "reader" just the bare minimums for a "barn call" Each dog has a rabies tag and a license tag but no one wears a collar. I have all the various tags in a folder for each with their medical records.

There are 8 of them if they wore their jangling collars in here it would sound like a marching band & I would need a large bottle of aspirin ;-) Of course if I take any in the car or someone is going to be boarded then they have the tags & collars (and St Francis medal too)

Side note if you are still here to Niki, How is Carrie?
