We are going on vacation tomorrow and taking our puppy. She is microchipped and has an ID tag with our info on it. She got her rabies certificate and tag today and after, I registered her with the town and got a tag for that. I was only planning on having her ID tag on her collar, but do I have to have the others on there to? The campground we are staying at requires the rabies certificate, so I will have that with me but there will be no proof on her that she has had her shot if she's not wearing her tag.
Just curious as to what everyone else does.

Ours wear both rabies and ID tags. At least with the jingling we always know where they are. After a bath, while they are drying, we always call them ninja dogs. You don't realize how much noise those tags make until they are off!

Thanks. I'll put her ID and her rabies tag on but I will stick the town tag on my keychain so that I at least have it with me.
I was trying to find out whats required for NYS but I'm not having any luck.

My dog is microchipped. I do not keep a collar on him. He is a show dog and I tried once to put a nice rolled leather collar on him. Well, it was dyed green and it turned his white fur green so I never put another collar on him!!

By town tag I think you mean his license? If so doesn't it have a license number on it? If he would get lost that is what the police could call the town and find out his info. I know he has ID but if it was un readable or something they could get his info.

In our town the dog MUST have his license tag on, if picked up without it it is a fine. Like if he got away and they picked him up if he didn't have his license on there would be a fine. My Dog has ID, license, rabies and is micro chipped.

My dogs wear their ID tag and rabies tag on their collar. I have not done this however a good tip is to actually write on the collar directly some ID info in case the tags are lost off the collar.

Mine all have rabies/parish tags and an id tag. They are also microchipped.
On their tags I have their name, our last name, my cell # , and my vets office #. I figure even if I'm out of town they can call me, and in the event they can't reach me they can reach my vets office.
However, my dogs like it to much at home. I open the front door and as far as they go is the back of the suv to climb in. No Worries about them running off. LOL

In most places are rabies tags separate from town/ parish/ county tags?
Ours are one tag we get from the vet who gets the tags through the parish.

I just went and counted. We use a "tag bag" attached to the collar to reduce the jingling. Rabies tag, town dog licence, ID tag with home and cell #, Home Again tag, greyhound adoption agency tag (we sign a contract to keep that on them at all times) and "I am a Certified Therapy Dog" tag. When travelling I also add a temporary luggage-type tag with our destination information; in your case that would be the campground name and number.

Yikes, that is 7 tags! Overkill perhaps, but I guess I like to be safe!

Name and phone number tag, Rabies tag, and a microchip tag showing that she has an implanted microchip in case she becomes lost.

I didnt even know they had tag bags! I wonder if they would work on my horses halters!

I used to use those plastic things you put on keys on the tags so they wouldn't make noise.

I don't understand what people mean when they say "parish". Can anyone explain? (I'm assuming your dogs don't go to church... :rotfl2: )

Rabies tag on th back of that tag is our phone number and our cell number and the clinics number ( Vet is a 24 hour emergency clinc)
Yellow plastic Tag from the microchip company .
Red stop sign tag that says REWARD if found .

Mine wears rabies tag, license tag, name/phone # tag, microchip tag, and dog park tag. I'm surprised he can walk with all that bling, LOL!

In Louisiana we don't have counties we have parishes. No, my dogs don't go to church , but we do have a blessing of the pets once a year.

Ah, thanks. (I bet the history of that is pretty interesting. Not too long ago I met someone from Louisana who told me a lot about its history, and I really enjoyed hearing it.)

So the tags are from the county and not the town? :confused3

Yes, our rabies tag and registration are from the parish ( county) but it's one tag.
