I have an english bulldog/beagle mix. Both dogs are prone to cherry eye. Sure enough my pup got cherry eye in each eye (at seperate times)

The last time occured about 2 years ago and we got him fixed up with surgery.

We haven't had any problems since then, but his eye is puffy and droopy today and looks almost like it did when he got cherry eye.

I called a vet down here and they said watch it for the next several hours and if it gets worse come right in. No change or gets better, hold off and monitor it.

Have any of yall had the problem come back after the surgery? I'm hoping that is not the case, I don't want to put him under again for more surgery-it gives me anxiety and I know its hard on his little body.

We didn't get the surgery where they remove the gland, it was the surgery where they tack it in place.

I don't remember if they can get one again or not, BUT this is prime time for grass awns in the eyes.

My vet told me there was no guarantee that this surgery would work.

I never knew about these! Thanks for the info, I will be on the look out for them when I give them their nightly check over after their walks.

yeah they told me that too... I just feel like if it wasn't going to work it would have done it quicker than 2 years later. I was thinking maybe he busted the stitch somehow...

My dog (a Havanese) had the surgery to tuck in her cherry eye - not only did it come back out - but the OTHER one came out too.

they are just out now and we keep a close eye on them to make sure they don't look super red or infected. The surgery didn't work for her.

How long after the surgery did it take before it came back?

My bulldog had the surgery for cherry eye and never had it come back although they told us it was a risk with the surgery.

Hope your dog is feeling better soon.

We had a beagle who had them removed a few years ago and they have not come back.

My Breaux is almost the only one in his litter who did not have cherry eye. Mom and several of the siblings have had surgery TWICE and two still have it.

Before someone goes on about how this dog should not have been bred (true), this was a post Katrina "oops" litter. Father was 15 years old and this was his last act before dying.
