DW MeanLaureen has started a small craft business making hand beaded dog collars. She sold them at about 8 shows last fall and did well in all but one of them.

We were accepted into the big Richmond Pet Expo as a vendor this February and will have a target customer base of 20,000 people expected to attend.

We have printed severa charts off of the internet of sizes of collars by breed for people that don't bring their dog with them to help them pick out the right size for their dog.

The problem is, in some areas, these lists contridict each other for different breeds by quite a bit size wise. Plus of course there are breeds missing.

Then I thought about the DIS. Thousands of dog lovers here! And I thought maybe some of you guys would be willing to do us a huge favor. Pretty Please?

If you could post what size collar your dog wears (or a family member's dog wears) along with it's breed and weight, we could compile a "real life" list of sizes. If you don't know what size the collar is, just measure around their necks with the tape loose enough for 2 fingers to fit underneath.

If you have a mixed breed, that would be great also! Post what your dog is mixed with and it's weight. It could be a great reference to help a customer decide on the size they need.

Thank you SO much for your help! :worship:

Great idea! W2 have had English Mastiffs that wore a 30 inch collar...we had rotties that wore a 26 inch collar...we now have Newfoundlands that wear a 28 inch collar... remember that the more inches the collar can be adjusted will be helpful...our 2 male Newfs are large but our female (due to Lyme) is TINY at 85 lbs. I think she only wears a 24 inch. Good Luck! Do you have pics?? Not sure I'd put a beaded collar on my Newfs...with the long hair you might not ever SEE it! That's something else to think of!

Dublin is just a puppy, not quite 4 months old, she is a Rat Terrier, but there are minis, standard and giants in this breed. There are also two body types, type A is taller and thinner, type B is short and stocky. We think she is a standard type B. She is about 9 pounds now and has an 8" neck. The collar we have is adjustable from 8" to 14".

We have two cocker spaniels weighing 28 and 35 pounds: their measurements are 17 and 18 inches (measured around the neck with tape loose). I'd love to see a picture of the collars!!!

I'll have to measure my kids when I get home (2 basenji's and a retriever/setter mix)...

But I'm interested in learning more about this pet expo...we live in Hampton and DH and I would probably like coming up to see that! Is there a website with more info?

Scooter he is 7 month old Lab Chow mix (predominatly Lab) is 18 inches
he weighs 40 lbs or so and is stocky in stature

Dakota is 100 lb 3 1/2 yr old pure Lab and he is very tall and thin
his is 22

these are inches measured with a tape since niether of them have collars at the moment

Ask ML if she wants just the canine dogs or if I should measure DH as well :rotfl:

tell her Good Luck for me on the sales :wizard:

I will measure Winnie (English bulldog, BIG neck!) tonight for you.

We have a beagle and he wears a Medium sized collar. Not sure what the inches are, but whatever corresponds to a medium at the pet store is what he wears.

FYI - Greyhounds cannot wear a standard dog collar... it needs to be a Martingale collar, or they will be running free faster that you can blink.

Toby is a 2 year old Beagle. He weighs 34 lbs and wears a small collar from LL Bean - I'm not sure why, but they seem to run big in LL Bean. I think he's typically a medium.

I have a Bernese Mtn Dog at home..... She's mostly full size....

Also have a mutt lab (her body and neck are lab size but shorter legs)

I'll measure tonight and reply......

Petey is a toy poodle. Actually he's on the border of toy and miniature. He weighs 9 pounds and his neck measures 9". I know what you mean, when I buy him sweaters, the chart on the label says he needs a small but actually I usually buy him a medium.

When and where is this expo? I'd LOVE to come if I can and see you guys!

My Yorkie-poodle mix is 6 pounds and wears an 8" collar.
My Bichon Poodle mix is 10 pounds and wears a 10.5" collar.

I just took off the collars and mesured them.

Good Luck! The two collars I got from ML are being proudly displayed on my mom's two dogs! :goodvibes If you want pictures are them for display, let me know!

All 3 of mine wear 10-14" collars - a schipperke, a standard schauzer mix and a beagle.

I would be interested in knowing whether she takes mail orders for these? Any pics? I have a friend who goes crazy buying stuff for her 2 dogs and I know she'd love these.

My chow wears a Medium collar - his neck measured 23 inches.
he is 45 lbs.

Oooooh yes, I would love to order one for Petey if she takes mail order!

I've got 2 cairn terriers, and have fostered over 2 dozen. Most cairns wear 16 inch collars- if they are on the small side a 14 inch, on the large side 18 inch.

wow! Mine must have a pencil neck! :rotfl: Rat Terrier, 11lbs, size 8. :dog:
