Can anyone suggest an alternative to trifexis? My dog is taking it for heartworm and flea prevention but he HATES it!! I can't sneak it to him. I have to force him to eat it. It's terrible. It smells terrible. I can see why he doesn't like it. I do like what it does though. Is anything comparable?

My dogs hate Trifexis too! But, since I live in South Florida, and Frontline is worthless here, I need them on Trifexis, so I smush the tablet up, and put it in a slice of cheese that I ball around it. That way the cheese seals it up, and since my dogs gulp and hardly chew, the tablet is already "chewed". Works every time ;)

Hi! I have a dog that can't do Trifexis either, she just throws up. There are a couple options, you can do a heartworm preventative plus a topical flea treatment like Frontline or Advantage. My vet has my girl on a heartworm pill plus the new Seresto collar, which repels ticks and treats fleas. I like it a lot, it isn't like the old collars, which are terrible for your pet. The prescription collar has the same kind of medicine in the topical flea treatments, but it is released slowly through the collar. It is good for eight months or five months if your dog gets wet a lot.

You may ask your vet for their opinion, since they are aware of the pests in the area and the best way to treat them. Hope you find something that works!

Tiki is on Trifexis and he doesn't like it either. But he has to take it, so I put about a tablespoon of spaghetti sauce in a bowl of food and stir the pill into it until it's coated. I guess the flavor of the spaghetti is strong enough to overcome the taste of the Trifexis--he eats it up and licks the bowl clean.:wizard:

My dogs were on Trifexis for a few months and didn't seem to care about the taste but it's SO expensive for 3 dogs I switched to Revolution (which isn't much cheaper when the dogs are all in different weight packs!). It's topical and treats flea/tick/heartworms. I've also used Advantage Multi and liked that when I lived in TN and AL but in GA it doesn't work as well for the fleas. The first month on Revolution I was still seeing fleas but they are on the second month and flea free and they are BAD BAD BAD around here this year.

My vet has my Pyreneese on Comfortis and Heartguard, 2 separate pills.

Sentinal is back, and my dog likes it. I can't remember what we used last year, but I would coat it in peanut butter, put it near her throat, and let her lick my peanut butter coated fingers.

I may see about this. I would much rather do a topical treatment.

I get a can of dog food and smash the pill and mix it in. They don't know they are taking it. They don't have a problem with the Trifexis.

Sentinel is back or you can use the topical advantage multi. Be sure it is multi, as that is the only one that has heart worm preventive in it. Regular advantage and frontline do not.
