Now that we have 2 house dogs it would be easier to have a doggy door for them. Our back door has a large window so not a place for a dog door. We have a metal screen door so no place there.

Our screen door isn't in great shape and one side of the glass is broken in the regular door, I'm thinking maybe either or both could be replaced.

I'd like to limit the times the dog door is open, right now the dogs are crated during the day but may start leaving them gated in the kitchen. I would not want them outside with no one home.

Do you have a doggy door? Which door is it in if you have 2? Looking to know what works best for others so I can start looking at doors.

We had one in our metal kitchen door going to the fenced back yard. It was great. We left our dog home during the day and he could come and go as he pleased (which was mainly lying on our king sized bed:D ) We did close it at night after he went out for the last time at bedtime.
We have recently have moved and the only door going to our back fenced yard is an all glass door. So we can't have a doggy door. It has been a major inconveniece for us as we were really used to the doggy door. But we live on acreage out now and I think I would be scared to have a doggy door b/c of wild animals.
We had squirrels coming on our back deck eating bird feed in our old house but they never came in the doggy door.:D
I don't know if this helps but it will at least keep it close to the top.:D

We have one going out the laundrey room (which is their home at night and when they want inside) It has a slide part that you can put in to have it opened or closed. Its very nice, it came from Lowes and I think was around $40.

We used to have a dog door into a fenced back yard. It was a great convenience and the dogs loved it. We had to cut a hole in the existing wooden door to install it.

My sister has a dog door on a sliding glass door. This was just an extra panel added to the door so nothing had to be damaged.

All dog doors can be closed/locked when you want. Here's a good link to look at some options. You can also buy dog doors at Home Depot, Lowes, and the like.

Good luck,
