Referring to the in-home petsitting services. A friend says not chance to it for that length of time because when we get home from vacation he might develop separation anxiety. Every time we leave the house he might think it will be a long time. He has no separation anxiety at this time. Also we are very lucky to adopt a shelter dog with no behavior problems.

Keep in mind that space just isn't that important to dogs. In the wild, they live in small dens. They will often feel safer is a small space than a large one.

To me, the biggest key is staff. If you have a good staff, you have a good kennel. Most of the other stuff is there to please the owners.

Thank You! That is what we were debating(space vs. individual care/attention)Plus my DH keeps reminding me that we are visiting in the winter and they only open the doggie doors to the runs during a few times a day to keep the heat. Unlike June the runs will be open during the whole day and the place will be more active. Plus I just noticed that Brizes Kennel is a member of the American Boarding Kennel Association. I am looking at their website now

Is there any way you can hire a pet sitter to come to your home instead?

This isn't always best for a dog that doesn't like to be alone. Especially if the pet sitter just visits a couple of times a day. My dogs loved going to the kennel, but hated to be left at home without me.

I took the advice from one posting to ask our vet if she heard about the 2 kennels. My DH took our dog for a follow-up appt. earlier this evening. The vet's friend has taken a golden ret. to Brizes Kennel for years. They like it very much. So I think I will be making reservations with them.
