Doesn't everybody have Disney on speed dial? Seriously? Mickeystoontown does! 5/14

A cape and a sword hunh? I can jsut imagine him walking around the park in that get up! :rotfl2:

You crack me up with your ADR's. I am not a fan of Boma food really, but the resort is gorgeous!!!!

Oh how I love Mickey mail and magic bands!!

I dont blame you for not wanting to eat at 10:00 at night, that is just craziness!!

I also don't blame you for wanting to cancel Boma.... We are planning on visiting AK also but don't plan to eat there.

Did you tell me that with the BOG FP- that it's not available until a month before the trip? I may have dreamed it but it is still unavailable. :(

I can't believe your trip is almost here!! It was literally a year ago when you got back from the last one and started planning this one.. #timeflies

Hey Lisa,
Sorry I've been more of a lurker than an active participant during your most recent TR and now your PTR. I just wanted you to know I've been reading along and enjoying every minute of reading your reports as usual!

I've been doing a lot of reservation changing lately as well (both resort and ADR) for our upcoming trip. We'll be there about the same time as your family (May 24th - May 29th). We were originally going to stay for 8 nights: 1-night (5/24) at AKL and then 7-nights (5/25-6/1) at Yacht Club.

For some reason, about a week ago we started looking at the Disney Cruise Line and last Saturday I booked a 3-night cruise on the Dream for 5/29-6/1. So I had to rework my ADRs and resorts. We gave up the 1-night at AKL and are now staying 5-nights at Yacht Club. We'll be driving down to FL on 5/24 and then to Port Canaveral on the 29th.

I'm really excited and also nervous about the cruise. I was one of those persons that said I'd "never do a cruise". I went back and re-read your TR from 2012 to help prepare myself and see how it all works.

We are doing Epcot on Monday the 26th so maybe we'll see ya'll around. I booked the Star Wars meal at Sci-Fi for Tuesday as my DH wants to take part in the Star Wars activities but not necessarily SWW.

I also choose a yellow magic band. I'm like you I like to match, but didn't want gray so picked yellow. :confused3

If you have any more cruise tips for me please share. I want to be prepared and have been doing as much research as possible. It is so unlike me to book a cruise of all things 30-days prior to departure. I'm such a planner, and am now trying to learn all I can about cruising! :)

I'll try to comment more on your PTR - and if I see ya'll in the World I'll stop and say hey! Or you can be on the look for one of your Mickey backsacks - I'm sure I'll be carrying one! :goodvibes

I just got done reading your last trip report and really enjoyed it! Your family sounds so much like mine right down to the wiener jokes and Napolean / Paul Blart quotes. I had to read parts of the report to my DH and DD when they were asking what I was laughing about.

We used to drive (1250 miles) when the kids were younger and I could take them out of school for longer periods of time, but we have been flying for the past 4 or 5 trips. We are considering our first May trip for 2015 (usually we go in the fall for free dining but my son is in college now), so am enjoying reading about your experiences at this time of the year. Do you pay for the dining plan or did you get a free dining pin? We haven't paid for food in Disney for so long, I really don't look forward to it. I am also considering CBR for this next trip. I have always thought it is a beautiful resort, but I can't get my family to agree to stay anywhere but POP.

Looking forward to reading the new report!

Wow! You're schedule/days sound like ours! Never a dull moment and ours is really picking up speed! So proud for Hunter and his orchestra group! The only way I could do a 10pm at Beaches and Cream is for an ice cream...but not the Kitchen Sink!

Wow, congrats to Hunter and his band/orchestra mates! That is fantastic!

Sorry he lost his wallet. That sucks when that happens. :(

You planted a ton of stuff. Want to come up to Wisconsin and do my yard next? I'll you a beer, brat, some cheese, and frozen custard. ;)

And I'm glad you all are safe from the storms. Scary stuff!

Yay for Mickey Mail and Magic Bands, though! I also picked the yellow band, which is weird for me because I love green and always pick it, but decided on something different this time.

Hopefully, we can get Hunter to the DMV this week. They are still doing class projects so it's hard to miss any classes.

The yellow one was the only one that I thought I wouldn't mind wearing for almost two weeks. :lmao:

Congrats to Hunter's orchestra...that is awesome.

I'm sorry he lost his wallet with his drivers license and YOUR money. I can't count how many times my youngest lost his wallet and license. :furious:

I'm glad you weathered the storms that went through. You sure were busy planting.

You change an ADR? I don't believe it. :joker:

Hunter is usually pretty good about keeping up with his things (he can't stand to throw anything away so I guess he's a mini-hoarder:rotfl:)

Wait 'til you see my next update. ;)

Wahoo! Our FP+ window is 12:40-1:10 Tuesday 5/27. We simply have to meet! Dismeet and BOG photo op all in one! Pencil me in, Lisa pixiedust:

Heck yeah! You see me....you gotta stop me!::yes::

That sucks about hunter losing his wallet maybe some nice person found it and dropped it in a mailbox or something. I lost one once and had it returned to me that way, Canada post has a policy that if a wallet has ID with an address on it they will return it for free.

He's gone to lost & found at school every day and the only person that can access the room has been out. That seems so wrong to me. :(

Lisa - sent you a PM!

Got it!:thumbsup2

A cape and a sword hunh? I can jsut imagine him walking around the park in that get up! :rotfl2:

You crack me up with your ADR's. I am not a fan of Boma food really, but the resort is gorgeous!!!!

The boy has no issues with looking like a goofball, that's for sure.

I ended up canceling Boma. Hopefully, we can still get over to the lodge to explore a bit more.:scratchin

Oh how I love Mickey mail and magic bands!!

I dont blame you for not wanting to eat at 10:00 at night, that is just craziness!!

I also don't blame you for wanting to cancel Boma.... We are planning on visiting AK also but don't plan to eat there.

Who eats dinner at almost 11:00 p.m.? I certain do not!

BOG FP+ is still not open for you? I thought they opened a full 30 days prior to your arrival. :confused3

Hey Lisa,
Sorry I've been more of a lurker than an active participant during your most recent TR and now your PTR. I just wanted you to know I've been reading along and enjoying every minute of reading your reports as usual!

Totally understandable! Life keeps me from posting more than I want.

That's kinda of how our cruise came about. I was playing around on the Disney cruise line site after getting an email from them. Before I knew it, a cruise was booked. I hope that you enjoy the cruise!

I'm really excited and also nervous about the cruise. I was one of those persons that said I'd "never do a cruise". I went back and re-read your TR from 2012 to help prepare myself and see how it all works.

Look at Jenseib's cruise trip reports. She has some really really good pictures.

I want to go on a cruise again. John's epilepsy really played a big part in how the cruise ended and I want to give it another shot.

We are doing Epcot on Monday the 26th so maybe we'll see ya'll around. I booked the Star Wars meal at Sci-Fi for Tuesday as my DH wants to take part in the Star Wars activities but not necessarily SWW.

Yeah, I didn't want to do the whole SWW thing again. Just too many people and too little attractions.

As I said, check out Jenseib's cruise reports.

I know that when we cruise again, I'll do more exploring of the ship. I think that I was more focused on getting to and from our port adventure and dinner that I forgot to add in a little "looking around" time. Oh and don't miss the shows. The one that we did go see was great!

I'll try to comment more on your PTR - and if I see ya'll in the World I'll stop and say hey! Or you can be on the look for one of your Mickey backsacks - I'm sure I'll be carrying one! :goodvibes

Please do stop me if you see us! I'll keep an eye out for the backsack too.

I just got done reading your last trip report and really enjoyed it! Your family sounds so much like mine right down to the wiener jokes and Napolean / Paul Blart quotes. I had to read parts of the report to my DH and DD when they were asking what I was laughing about.

Welcome! So glad to "meet" you! I often tell my husband about something that I wrote about on my trip report and he'll say "I forgot about that." or "We laughed so hard." It's nice to relive the vacation through the trip report.

I have always thought it is a beautiful resort, but I can't get my family to agree to stay anywhere but POP.

Keep an eye out for my trip report when we get back. I'll be posting crowd pictures, wait times, etc. That should help you plan a May, 2015 trip. Plus, the kinks should be worked out of the new FP+ system by them.

We absolutely love CBR! We have from the moment we stepped foot there many many trips ago. My brother-in-law and his family said that while they loved All Star Sports, they would like to stay at the CBR since it had a more laid-back vibe.

Looking forward to reading the new report!

I usually get them started about a week or so after we get back and it takes me almost a year to complete them. :rotfl:

Wow! You're schedule/days sound like ours! Never a dull moment and ours is really picking up speed! So proud for Hunter and his orchestra group! The only way I could do a 10pm at Beaches and Cream is for an ice cream...but not the Kitchen Sink!

Yes m'am, I know that you've been a busy woman too! You have a graduate this year!

White water rafting, toboggan racing, Santa and dinosaurs all in one day!

When I sat down to start planning this year’s trip, we already knew that it would be Mamaw-less. After having gone to Disney with us three, maybe four times, with the latest being in 2013, she knew that she had pretty much Disney’d out. Actually, maybe Disney’d out (love makin’ up my own words ;)), isn’t the right phrase.

Mama knew that she would never be able to keep up with us even if we took the trip at a slower than usual pace. Mama likes her own room and the room costs made up the majority of her entire trip costs. While we would like for her to go with us again, there was/is no way that I’d ask her to shell out thousands of dollars and her end up spending the majority of her time at the resort. Don’t get me wrong, Mama didn’t mind staying at the resort, relaxing and then meeting up with us later. But, she also knew and we knew that we felt a little guilty about leaving her there despite her assuring us that she was fine.

With Mama being out of this year’s plans, we knew that we could do some things that we wouldn’t get to do when she was with us. At the time, though, I was also having to factor in that Lacey and Jesse would be there and their time was more limited so we’d stick with the four parks and a down day while they were there. I had the itinerary somewhat planned out and was happy with it. Life stepped in and Lacey and Jesse had to make a hard decision. Do we sell our Jeep while it’s still in good shape (but having to put money into minor repairs which may end up being major repairs) and buy a new Jeep or do we chance it, spend the money on the Disney trip, and hope that the Jeep kept on keeping on? Ultimately, they canceled the trip and we were back to the three Amigos. Just John, Hunter and I.

I did some itinerary reworking and finally had our days planned out. Of course, there was the adjustment to our first Magic Kingdom day when I realized that we wouldn’t be going to the Magic Kingdom until we were five days into the trip. I changed it to our first park day and then a wonderful Diser reminded me that was Memorial Day and I switched up our Magic Kingdom and Epcot day. Thank goodness for the Dis and my Dis friends! :thumbsup2

Okay, so getting back to the day that I am supposed to be talking about. On this day, Friday, May 30th, we are going to Blizzard Beach!

Blizzard-beach-logo200ad.jpg

We are excited and a little nervous at the same time. We have been to Typhoon Lagoon but never Blizzard Beach. I have read that the slides there are more intense and steep and scary than those at Typhoon Lagoon. That’s what makes me nervous. Ya’ll will recall that I’m freakin’ terrified of heights. Did someone say “but it’s easier to reach the top of Summit Plummet via the chair lifts?” :scared1:

Blizzard-Beach.jpeg

I think that I also heard someone whisper “the drop is 12 stories!” Yeah, the nerves are sure to kick in.

BlizzardBeachSlide.jpg

If I get there and chicken out, then I chicken out. If I get there and do it and hate it, then I don’t ever have to do it again. If I get there, do it and love it, then I’m going again! :yay:

From what little research that I’ve done so far, there seems to be quite a few things that I know we’ll enjoy like:

blizzard-beach.jpg

BlizzardBeachTobogganRacers_700.jpg

Disney-Blizzard-Beach-21.jpg

Usually, when we visit a water park, we get there at or very near opening and leave around 1:00 or so. This year, we have planned differently. We will eat lunch at Blizzard Beach and then walk to do another something that’s a first for us.....Winter Summerland! We haven’t ever played mini-putt at Disney. Can you believe that? In all of our trips, we have never stepped foot on their two mini-putt courses.

wintersummerland01.jpg

blizzardbeach59.jpg

I’ve read several trip reports that included a visit to Winter Summerland and it looks really cute and fun. It seemed only right with Winter Summerland being so close to Blizzard Beach that we walk over and give it a try. Plus, we have the water park and more option so it’ll be included with our tickets.

Once we are done, we’ll walk back to the Caribbean Beach bus stop at Blizzard Beach and go back to the resort so that we can rest up before going back out again to our dinner destination. Which is?

It’s T-Rex (finally some of my own pictures to share):

We have eaten at T-Rex every year since it opened and when I asked the family if they wanted to eat there, they said let’s go to Rainforest Café instead. Several months after our 180 ADR date rolled around, with Rainforest Café already booked, John asked “Are we eating at T-Rex?”. And, he was serious! Uh, that one books up fast. I told him that I’d see what I could do and there was nothing available. I finally ended up calling the restaurant directly and getting an 8:00 p.m. reservation. All I gotta do is give them my name. Yeah, right. First, I have to get to that desk to check in. Any of ya’ll who have been to T-Rex know that the check-in area is congested and confusing. Even having been there several times, it’s confusing.

Anyway, I’ll check us in and hope that we get seated somewhere other than the ice cave.

There’s nothing wrong with the ice cave. It’s just that we’ve been seated there every.single.time. But, if they take us there and that’s the only place to sit, then we’re sitting in the ice cave. I don’t want to have to wait for another table to come open. No need for that.

Where we go and what we do after dinner depends on how late it is before we are done. If we have time, we may go over to Disney Quest for a little while. Or, we may just walk around and do a little shopping. There’s no tellin’ what we’ll do.

**Up next: Somebody take my keyboard away! No don’t! I was just kiddin
!

What a great day planned. I always say we are going to play mini golf one day but we never do. Last trip it rained too much this trip the kids say they want to go to Splitsville. I'm looking forward to hearing about you day at Blizzard Beach. My husband hates water parks so it's not even a thought. I figured when the kids are a little bit older we will go and we can leave him back at the resort.

You don't have much longer to wait and you will be headed back to Disney. Can't wait to hear the rest of your plans. If I see you at the Dessert Party I am going to point out to my DH that you go every year. I think I've convinced him that every two years is ok but when I say every year he looks at me like I have 2 heads.

That's us....we always say that we want to play but then never get around to it. This year, we're going to fix that.

We are going to Splitsville too! It looks like a neat place to hang out and have fun.

John doesn't like the raft tube thingies at the water parks. Every single time he goes down the slide or whatever and gets to the bottom, he leans back and flips over. Every time. I told him to stop leaning back. :lmao:

Honey, if you want me to talk some sense into that man of your's just let me know. :rotfl: No seriously, hopefully, you husband will start wanting to go every year.

I told ya’ll an update or two back that I was pretty happy with our ADRs and the only things that may possibly change would be cutting out Boma and continue to look for Category 1 seating at Hoop Dee Doo Revue. Let me backtrack a minute. I have Category 1 seating for Hoop Dee Doo already. But, I booked it on the day that we are doing the Keys to the Kingdom tour (which I haven’t told ya’ll about yet). Given that I made a few FP+ on that same day, I thought it would be nice if I could get Hoop on our first day and just pay out of pocket for it. However, I could never get Category 1 seating so I pretty much gave up on that even being an option.

One of the restaurants that we really like is Ohana but we decided to go to Kona instead. Still, I checked every once in a while to see if Ohana was available knowing good and darn well that some restaurant was going to get the boot if it ever did become available. What that “some restaurant” would be was unclear unless it was Boma. :confused3 That is, until yesterday and it became clear when ta-da-de-da. A 6:30 p.m. Ohana magically appeared on May 25th. I booked and Boma got the boot.

jump-for-joy.png

No, no wait. That’s not how it happened. Let me get this story straight. Get your cup of coffee and sit a spell. :surfweb:

Over on the May, 2014 ADR cancellation thread, somebody had posted a link to a Disney DVC Resale site and it had a dining search engine that checked from so-and-so date to so-and-so date and you could specify which restaurant you wanted. :thumbsup2 I decided to do a little checking Saturday afternoon and on a whim, I chose Ohana. What did the search find? A 8:20 p.m. on May 31st. Problem was, we already had a House of Blues on the 31st. I booked Ohana under another email address before it went poof and I could figure out what I wanted to do.

royalty-free-confused-clipart-illustration-215206.jpg

Then, I started looking for other dates that we could eat at House of Blues. Why not on May 25th? Yeah, why not? :hyper: I booked it and was happy. We were eating at House of Blues on May 25th and Ohana on May 31st.

Only....come on....ya’ll knew that there was an “only” coming up so don’t go rolling your eyes at me. :lmao:

Only, I was a little stressed that we wouldn’t be able to see all we wanted to see at the Animal Kingdom on the 31st, get back to the resort and freshen up (there ain’t no skippin’ freshening up after a hot sweaty day at Animal Kingdom :sad2:), wait for a bus to the Magic Kingdom and finally take the monorail or boat to Ohana without rushing. Rushing stresses the heck out of John which isn’t good for a person with epilepsy. Plus, none of us like rushing in general (as if anybody does). But, there was no other time for Ohana during our entire stay so I kept it. We’d just have to get to Animal Kingdom early, knock out the must-dos and get ‘er done.

Fast forward to last night when I was checking my emails and decided to use the dining search again to see if I would luck out and there would be an Ohana opening. That’s when:

A 6:30 p.m. Ohana magically appeared on May 25th. I booked and Boma got the boot.

That also meant that I had to change our 31st plans. I wanted to see if I could get an ADR at Downtown Disney because it’s easier to get to than going to a resort. I wanted/needed an 8:30 or 8:45 House of Blues. Not available. Crap!

cartoon-pulling-my-hair-out1.gif

Wait a minute...what about seeing if I could switch around our Planet Hollywood meal to May 31st and see if House of Blues was available on our Planet Hollywood night? A little working with the Disney dining page and wallah! I had them switched!

vector-of-a-cartoon-surprising-businesswoman-shouting-ta-ta-coloring-page-outline-by-ron-leishman-14206.jpg

Confused? So was I! I had two different note pads on my computer desk. I had my itinerary in front of me. I had two email accounts open. I was bumfuzzled for a minute there. After I assured myself that I had just what I wanted, I cancelled the 8:20 Ohana and the May 25th House of Blues.

Sooooooooo, this is where we are at with the changes:

May 24th:

Hunter’s birthday! Arrive at Disney mid-afternoon. Dinner somewhere on Disney property. Don’t really care where just so long as we are in Disney and celebrating his birthday.

May 25th:

11:40 a.m. lunch at Beaches & Cream 6:30 p.m. dinner at Ohana

May 26th:

Epcot day

Counter service for lunch 8:40 dinner at Coral Reef

May 27th:

Magic Kingdom day

Counter service for lunch 8:45 dinner at House of Blues

May 28th:

Sleep in day

Counter service for lunch 5:45 p.m. dinner at Kona 9:05 p.m. Wishes Dessert Party Surprise!

May 29th:

Hollywood Studios day

Counter service for lunch 7:00 p.m. Fantastic Star Wars dinner at Hollywood and Vine Surprise!

May 30th:

Blizzard Beach & Winter Summerland

Counter service for lunch 8:00 p.m. dinner at T-Rex

May 31st:

Heck, I need to leave this blank and tell ya’ll about it in the next update. I haven’t told ya’ll what we are doing yet.:rotfl: Actually, I’ve told ya’ll part of what we are doing but not all of it. It’s coming up!

**Up next: Will Ace Ventura be joining you today? I saw his Jeep parked out front!

Love the title of this chapter!

We went to Blizzard Beach on our last family trip (June 2012). It was lots of fun but we made the mistake of going early in our trip and I felt like we were wiped out for the next few days. Something about water parks leave me tired for days. And no, I did NOT do Summit Plummet. Partly because I was scared and partly because the risk of losing your swimsuit is high. :rotfl: Just watch.

We will be at Winter/Summerland the day before you! We are excited to check it out too. Aaron and I golfed at Fantasia Gardens in March and enjoyed it so we are looking forward to trying this course out.

LOL....at your family asking about going to T-Rex well after the 180 day mark. When will they ever learn the amount of stalking and changing we have to do....(well most it of we probably do to ourselves but it is good to blame them every once in a while).

The title of your next chapter has me wondering if you have been up to more changes???

Somehow, I knew you would like the title. ;) Sounds a bit like someone else we know. :rotfl:

Swimming always leaves me tired and hungry. I'm talking drained to the core and hungry as a bear.

You sound like a good person to answer a question that I have: What's the best way to get to Fantasia Gardens? We may try to squeeze it in somewhere.

My family knows that it's tough to change up ADRs but they also know that I pretty much always come through with the changes. Guess they figure I'll work it out.

I can tell you what I'll be doing at Blizzard Beach (and no we are NOT there the same day). I'll be floating in the Lazy River and going ONCE on the family raft. That's it. I'm not taking stairs, I'm not going in a chair lift, I'm not going down those slides. I will watch all of the other people do it. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

You have me so confused about your dining. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Mark wanted me to try to get Boma for dinner our arrival night (he won't go back to Ohana).

I'm waiting patiently for more days to be posted so I know when we are at a park at the same time. So far no go.

I am okay with the raft rides and some tame slides but I don't know about that big old drop slide at Blizzard Beach. It's scary looking!

Honey, I was confused myself. I think that I've finally finally gotten everything like I want it.

I think that we may be at the Animal Kingdom on the same day. Aren't ya'll going there on the 31st? That's the day we will be there.

Yes we are. FP+ times are: 9:40 - 10:40 for the Safari, 2:30 - 2:50 for Finding Nemo and 3:45 - 4:45 for Kali River Rapids.

Whew!! You got my head spinning :crazy2: with all of those ADR changes. Sound like you have a couple great days planned. I hope we can get to the water parks someday.
