Does your state allow the carrying of concealed guns?

Tomorrow Ohio's concealed gun law takes affect, allowing people to wear concealed guns.
The people for the law say it will make things safer like people will think twice before assualting someone.

What concerns me is with road rage on the rise, that all it will take is someone to accidently cut off someone else and bang bang we have shoot up while going 70 miles an hour down the road.

Now let me say I have nothing against people owning guns but having such ready access to it while out in public makes me a tad nervous.

At our workplace we just put up "weapons prohibited" signs at work for anyone who might visit the workplace.

Yes thank goodness, it's at least ONE of the few freedoms we still enjoy in this country - the right to bear arms.

I live in Ohio too... and honestly it doesn't bother me what will take place tomorrow. As long as they have the permit I would guess they check out. No more worried than I was before :)

Illinois........

1. Unloaded and,
2. Enclosed in a case, and
3. By persons who have a valid FOID card.

Indiana issues concealed gun permits and I've had a permit for several years.

Just a question for curiousity sakes:
How often do you wear a concealed gun?

Yes here in PA. you may have a concealed gun so long as you have a permit.

We have had a concealed carry law for a few years here. A lot of anti-gun people predicted it would turn into the wild west, with people gunning each other down left and right for the fun of it. That never happened. I always think it's funny that businesses put up "no handgun" signs (they do that here as well) because the law abiding citizen who goes to the time, trouble, and cost to get a permit isn't the one you need to be worrying about.

Yep, but you have to take a class first in order to get the permit (and pass a criminal check and stuff like that). You can carry your weapon without a permit though if it is not concealed.

ecause the law abiding citizen who goes to the time, trouble, and cost to get a permit isn't the one you need to be worrying about.

Exactly! I watched a show once where they had an interview with inmates at a NJ prison where they asked them what they thought of gun laws. They laughed and said when and if they wanted a gun they certainly didn't buy it legally, they all knew where they could get a gun in minutes. They also asked them what would deter you the most from attacking/robbing someone, they said the thought that the person is armed themselves.

So no, I don't think concealed carry laws will increase crime at all.

Oregon allows concealed carrying with a permit.

I dropped by work today (in NE Ohio) and saw one of those signs posted at the entrance to the parking lot. I sure wish that I was in the sign making business as I am willing to bet that there are going to be a LOT of those signs cropping up here.

The vast majority of people who go to the trouble to get a concealed-carry permit are law-abiding citizens. The ones you need to be nervous about are the ones who carry w/o a permit.

Yes I realize the "bad guys" will probably already carry the guns.

My concern is that I happen to know some law abiding citizens who are also very hot headed where in past arguments with other people I have heard them say..You are sooo lucky I dont have a gun on me right now. Wether they actually meant it I dont know but the fact that now that type of a person can carry a gun makes me a tad concerned(but not to the point of losing any sleep)

For me I wrestled with this, is it a good thing or a bad thing.
I know carrying a gun now gives you extra protection from the baddies out there and I like that
but
for the reason stated above it also makes me concerned.

I've had a New York State permit for 36 years and am now also licensed in a number of other states. New York is getting tougher for concealed carry while most states now make it easier.

Florida was the first to go to "must issue" for qualified applicants, qualified meaning someone who meats or exceeds all federal and state requirements. Everyone thought Florida would become one big gunfight, but the result was just the opposite. Now, more than thirty other states have followed suit with silimar results.

Yes, there will always be a few who abuse the laws, just like those who abuse driving, drinking, and just about everything else. The idiot who snaps with road rage already has a much more powerful weapon, a motorized vehicle. All this is a behavioral problem, but too many people find it easier to address the product. "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" is no different than "Cars don't kill people, drunk/bad/careless drivers kill people."

No matter how you look at it, it's a very emotional issue on many fronts, but the fact is that where carry permits have become the norm, violent crime and accidental death rates have gone down significantly.

Now, if we can just find some way to license politicians... ::yes::

I have a friend here who has his CCW licence. He says it just makes him feel safer, even though he has never had to use it, and hope he never does. I have never seen a sign anywhere in Michigan that says no guns allowed. Maybe I just haven't look hard enough.

And so does KY. We lived in KY for over ten years... both DH and I wanted to take the class for the license. Great class! Over 6 hours of classroom study.. what is legal and not legal... when to use deadly force and when not to. Learned a lot...
Moved to IN and wanted to get my concealed carry license. No class, not nothing! Just fill out a piece of paper and wait! KY had an actual credit card-looking plastic license with your photo. IN just has a piece of pink paper.
I believe the classroom work should be mandatory. Indiana is much too easy.

There's still some parts of Florida that don't even require it to be concealed. All you need is a permit and you can strap the darn thing on your leg like a gunfighter.

Gotta love Florida!
