Does your family stay on-site or off-site when you travel to Walt Disney World?

We stayed off site a long time ago and then decided to try on site. Well...we fell in love with on site. In my opinion there is no comparison in the overall vacation experience. We are now DVC member and love it!

For some reason our preference seems to fluctuate by the decade!

In the 70's we pretty much always stayed on site.

In the 80's we pretty much always stayed off-site. I think the reason was because there began to be many more options than in previous years.

In the 90's we were back to on-site.

In the 2000's we were pretty much half and half.

So far, from 2000-2015 we've stayed offsite more than on. Wanted to stay on-site again over Christmas with the FD offer but it just didn't work out for us this year.

We stayed on-site for years. We liked the convenience of walking to the food court, taking walks around the resort, etc. Once both of our children were teenagers, 15 and 17, the resort room was just too crowded.

We stayed off-site for the first time in 2013, a 4-bedroom condo that was less expensive than a value resort room. Each child had their own room which they loved! Having a kitchen area was a nice bonus as well as three bathrooms!

We found that driving to the parks everyday did not bother us in the least. We were accustomed to using Disney transportation which was sometimes a problem anyway with occasional long waits for buses and having to stand up for the ride.

I was worried my son would not like that he couldn't hop on a bus in the afternoon and go back to the room to "chill" which he liked to do in the past. We talked about it and he said he understood he couldn't expect one of us to drive him back to the condo. He was good with staying with us all day in the park. We sometimes shut down the parks even if we arrived before rope drop. He never complained once and enjoyed himself!

We now prefer off-site if the children go with us. If it's just my husband and me, I prefer on-site a little better and still drive to the parks.

We have always stayed onsite. Our kids are older now and that's all the more reason to stay onsite. I can leave them at the hotel and not worry or they have the freedom to go to the parks on their own with no worry. They have a little more freedom onsite than they would staying offsite.

before we moved to Florida, we only stayed onsite. After we moved in state, we have done both on and offsite, but for the most part we found we prefer the space of offsite. Of course, part of that is having found an offsite that we particularly love (Caribe Royale) which is still close driving distance to the parks and allows my teens to have seperate beds, etc, plus we drive now so always have our car. Honestly, we have family that lives in the Orlando area, and we still pay to stay in a hotel when we are going to the parks because its so much more convenient to be close.
