Does your dh buy suits from a discount store? Which one?

My older son needs a suit for a church event next month. I was hoping to catch something on clearance at Kohl's, but he has unusually long legs and I couldn't find anything there to fit.

I am job searching right now...my job ends in May...so I really don't want to pay a couple hundred dollars for a suit that he'll wear twice for sure...maybe 3 times. He grows so fast that, while the jacket will work for a year or so, the pants will be outgrown in about 6 months.

Any suggestions? It's a 20+ mile drive to the nearest stores, so I thought I'd ask. Burlington Coat Factory? TJ Maxx? Any suggestions on where I might pick up a discounted jacket or suit?

I am in another country, so I really can't suggest an appropriate discount store. Had you considered a navy blue blazer and dressy khaki trousers? He can wear the trousers elsewhere this summer, and would be able to keep the blazer as a wardrobe staple for as long as it still fits.
Good luck with your searching!

Yes! My hubby has found two suits at Goodwill and bought one off ebay for much less than he would have paid for one nice suit. He did take them all to the dry cleaners and had them tailored at the tailor, but it was still much cheaper. I would definitely check there for your son. Especially since kids outgrow those so fast!

JC Pennies has a big and Tall online section. Where they sell Dockers. Then get them unhemmed so the hem can be let down over time.

Found a whole suit (jacket, pants and I think a vest) at Goodwill for my son for $8. He only wore it once, but that was fine.

I also got a suit given to me by someone who had an older son . My son wore it a few times and then my son handed it down.

It is Easter time so you will find suits and pants on sale.

I'm looking for dresspants for my son today- he outgrew his dress clothes and he has another function next week. However, my son is tall and very skinny (28 x 32 or 28 x 34!) so Goodwill doesn't really work for us and most times the Kohls or JC Penneys don't work either.

If you have consignment stores in your area they might be worth a look. Sometimes the owner will let customers know if something comes in in the correct size.

Macy's sells suit separates as well and is always running sales and percent of promotions. We have gotten to know one salesman who has been in the business 30 years and is always helpful with fitting suggestions. They don't do inhouse alterations anymore, though, but I always did the pants hemming myself anyway.

What size? My oldest wore one for his brother and sisters adoption....it is hanging in the closet.

In the pants he needs a 30 x 34 or 30x 36. The shorter length would just reach the top of his shoes.

I know this will sound weird but my son has his junior prom tonight and he is tall and lanky (28x32, 28x34ish) and we were having a hard time finding a suit. He needed a 36 jacket. We went, on a fluke, into the childrens department of JCPenney and he tried on a 20 pants and jacket and it fit perfect. The whole suit cost us $50 on sale! (as opposed to the $215 for jacket and pants that fit at Kohls-on sale) He was mortified until I showed him the same suit (more or less) in the men's dept. (small pinstripe) and told him no one would ever know. I hated to spend hundreds of dollars for something he will most likely outgrow in a few months.
