Does your city/town recycle?

Yep, where we are now we are allowed one can of garbage each week, and have to pay for any additional. We are given a plastic container for recyclables that are picked up, as well as a big 'yardy' large plastic container on wheels for yard waste.

In our old town, we had the recycling container, but we had to pay $90 a year for a garbage can tag in order to have them pick up ANY trash. There we had to pay $1 for every additional bag, and 1.25 for bags of yard waste.

by 2020 recycling will be more common than throwing away

so says my social studies teacher

We are big recyclers here. About 18 months ago the village switched us to 200 gal contaiers on wheels and I love it. I am a real fiend about recycling and fill that sucker nearly every week. I only throw out 2 or 3 bags of garbage a week because we recycle so much. We also have yard waste pick up from April to Dec and all that goes to the Botanic Gardens for mulch.

It drives me crazy when we go to my DSis's because they don't recycle. They live outside of Denver and I was really surprised when my DSis told me how difficult and expensive it is for them to recycle. You would think such a "green" state would lead the way.

Recycling here as well.....we do not have trash pickup so we have to go to the dump....it is actually pretty organized...

One of our local garbage services had a recycling center and pickup for several years but they closed it down this past summer due to lack of interest (meaning no or not enough profit). My town has a recycling center but no pickup service AND they don't take glass. Bummer! We still recycle, though.

We have a much improved recycling program in my town. They provided everyone with really big green garbage cans to promote the purpose--glass, aluminum, paper, plastic, etc. They also have a phone book recycling campaign every year. Then they have drop offs for certain items that can be recycled but don't fit into the above categories.

Not at all here. We get 1 trash can a week, and 1 yard waste can. They charge $40 a month for this priviledge - I can't imagine how much they would want if you could recycle.

The nearest place to recycle is about a half an hour away and is very picky, so we unfortunately don't recycle.

I would if I could do it from home or at least didn't have to drive an hour round trip to do so.

I'm pretty sure that it's $10/month to recycle and you also have to buy the container from them as well. Needless to say, I've never seen any recycling containers around my area.

Yep, greens every other week and recyclables every other week. I am very mindful to smash up boxes , and plastic bottles, etc. and put in the recyclable container for such. I cringe when I see a family member toss a soda can or whatever in the trash. Geesh.

Wow, I'm amazed there are still areas where people don't recycle! Isn't the South supposed to be behind on stuff like this?

We've had curbside recycling for 10-12 years. I use two recycling bins -- one for newspaper and uncoated cardboard and the other for glass and plastic. Before that we loaded up our stuff and took it to a recycling center (just dumpsters loaded for newspaper, clear glass, plastic, etc.).

I agree, I thought everyone recycled, or at least all major towns/cities. I understand the rural folks dont always have garbage service, let alone recycling.

We have had it here for about 10 years I think? Maybe a little more?

We have curbside pickup on the same day that our trash gets collected.

Where I live in London (London Borough of Barnet) we get fined if we don't recycle.

The township collects garbage twice per week except during the Fall when the second collection is for leaves and after Christmas when the second collection is for Christmas trees. Recycled items are once per week on a different day than the garbage. The first week, cans, bottles, etc. are collected. The second week, it's newspapers. The third week, it's cans, bottles again and the fourth week, it's magazines and cardboard. The property taxes (one of the highest in the nation) :confused3 pays for all services.

Yes--newspapers, glass, and plastic bottles of certain kinds (we look for the number on the recycle logo) as long as the neck of the bottle is narrower than the base. We have no limits on containers for garbage (that I am aware of), we must provide our own trash containers (Be it just a bag--or the big containers that hold the trash) and the county provides us with 2 recycling containers.

We were just at my BIL's in Marietta, GA--if they want to recycle, they have to pay extra. That just doesn't make any sense. But then again--he pays for his garbage service (and makes arrangements for them himself). Here--our county outsources....but they cover it themselves and it is included in our taxes.

Yes, and we are FORCED to, and we have to pay for it to be collected. If we don't, we get a huge fine....

Yes, I think when I was in 3rd grade or so they started a recycling program because the recycling center was just too small. Now every house gets a big recycling bin for recyclables. They are picked up once a month.
