Please answer the poll (check all that apply) and then tell me what denomination you're talking about...

ETA: When I say "HAVE" I really mean "ALLOW." So, for instance, if your Methodist church doesn't happen to have a female pastor, but you know that some Methodist churches do, you would vote Yes.

Also, I don't know what other denominations call the various types of people (elders, overseers, deacons, etc.), so try to pick as close as you can.

Edited again: If your denomination shares part of a name with another denomination, please be specific. (For instance, if you are Lutheran is it ELCA, Missouri Synod, etc. If you are Presbyterian is it PCA, PCUSA, etc.)

Shoot - I pushed reply before I realized I should have chosen more than one option. I marked women ministers, I failed to mark women in all the other leadership roles. We have women in all leadership roles. There is no differenciation between sexes for any of the roles. We also have men that serve coffee and do dishes.

I'm Episcopalian and we do have female ministers as well as women serving in other capacities. My mom's family is Presbyterian and we sometimes go to a Presbyterian church where the minister is a family friend. Her sermons are some of the best I've ever heard.

What denomination?

One of the main reasons I began to pull away from catholisism in my earlier years is because I knew I'd never truly be equal there.

Women are treated equally to men in my denomination. (Presbyterian) At one time, we had ALL female ministers, but now we have a 50/50 split. I also recall a period when we had all males, but that was just the luck of the draw. The ratio changes as people leave, retire, die, etc. and are replaced.

Froglady, what kind of Presbyterian? (What specific Presby denomination?)

We are Lutheran, our Pastor is a woman and so was the one before this one. I had never really thought of this until answering this post, but that is all our DD's have known. We did have one intern Pastor who was male and everyone loved him, but the last 2 interns have also been female.

Leadership roles in church are very 50/50. What I find nice is that a lot of the men will do the cooking for events, my DH is often called on to make a soup for the soup & pie dinners, he's even made pies for it before. He also bakes for the bake sales, they know not to call me ;)

USA. DM belongs to PCA; they're more fundamentalist, and I don't think they allow women as ministers/pastors.

Yes. Women are involved in all of the above. I'm a member of the Episcopal Church.

You're right. Or as elders, deacons, or even ushers.

(I know there are other Presbyterian denominations, too, but I don't know what their policies are.)

Another Presbyterian USA here - there is no difference between men and women in any of the roles

Southern Baptist here. Women can serve on various commitees and can teach small groups. Also at the moment all the sign language interpreters in my church are female although in the past we have had male interpreters. Director of the childrens ministry is female as is the principal of our school, Finance chairman is female too

I didn't read your first post and only checked the first box. Another Presbyterian USA member here. We have one woman and two men as pastors at the moment, but I believe we have more women elders and deacons right now.

If you go to any religious ed/parish office of any Catholic church, who do you see? 90% women. I always said, if women were to refuse to work just one day in the Catholic church... Well, not much would get done!

Our church (Catholic) has women for Eucharistic ministers, readers, religious ed teachers.

I did the same thing and the same comments apply to our church. Sorry to mess up your poll.
