Flying United later in the year on a voucher. Cant seem to find any direct flights out of Milwaukee. Wondering if that’s temporary because of covid and things will open up as the year goes on?

Milwaukee isn’t a hub for United. Did they have non-stops before?

You would probably have to go to O’Hare for a non-stop.

They may have in the past but it's not a historical route for them. Before COVID they announced Tampa and Ft. Myers service but these point to point routes are usually seasonal and often only once a week. Plan on connecting at ORD.

The only direct options I've found out of MKE to MCO was SW. Everything else had a connection. I went in October and drove the extra 90 minutes to MDW and flew SW for $49 each way rather than the $225 each way out of MKE. Since you have a United Voucher I would look at driving the extra 70 minutes to ORD,

A quick search shows that both Frontier and Southwest currently offer non-stop flight between Milwaukee and Orlando. "Direct" flight means it stops somewhere. Even when covid wasn't an issue, non-stop flights tended to be between airline hub cities and major destinations. None of us has any way to know which flights might be added back to the airline schedules once covid is behind us. With fewer people traveling due to covid, airlines will offer less frequent flights or eliminate certain cities in order to balance supply with demand.

If you have to fly United due to an expiring voucher, I would look for the best available options based on your preferred travel times even if that means stopping somewhere along the way.

Thank you for responding! Great information! I never really thought about most of that and Im ashamed of myself! We just moved from 40 minutes outside of ORD to WI. We are traveling with a special needs son in a power chair which is always fun. In fact, the voucher was bc his chair got stuck on a ramp getting out of the plane. We are loyal to United as they have always had awesome customer service so it looks like we are in for the 2.5 hour drive.

Depending on which direction you are, you might want to look at flying out of ATW, CWA or MSN and taking the short hop to ORD. All offer service to ORD, depending on the cost difference it might be worthwhile rather than driving and parking at ORD. I don't know if your son's chair would have an issue on the CRJ's that the feeder airlines use.
