I would rather go to WDW! If I were looking to "de stress" or "check out of the world", I would go to where I would actually have fun. This is an email that I received from my totally braggy friend. I don't know if I could take one day of "total relaxation", let alone five whole days. This sounds completely boring to me. She called me Friday when she got back to try to talk me into going in a few months. I just said, "you know, it really isn't my thing but I am glad you had fun".

Hi Dawn,
Just a quick note to say I am at a resort health spa in ****, Vermont. I needed to "check out" of the world for a while as it was just getting crazier by the minute with all that has happened in the past 6 weeks. One of my girlfriends in Tucson that had been to a health spa said it was a wonderful way to relieve stress. I looked online and saw this place advertised in ****. I gave them a call and got all the particulars on the place. I booked a 5 day package. Its been just heavenly! Lots of massages, body scrubs, hair treatments, nail treatments, soaks in mineral water hot baths, water aerobics, jazzercise classes, facials, hiking, fitness center programs, etc. My room is on the top floor and has a fireplace in it. I have a view of Mt. Mansfield from my window. What a wonderful way to unwind. The best thing is I am here totally by myself and loving every minute ot it by being totally on my own schedule. **** was still away on a hunting trip, so I decided to do something for myself and "veg out". You and I should do something like this together some time. There are lots of women here that came with a sister, a girlfriend, a work colleague, etc. and make it a annual "girls pampering vacation" together. A great idea.

I should be back in ****** Thursday night and then off to **** house on Friday. I'll give you a call when I get a chance. Hope your trip to Florida went well.

Talk to you soon. ****

She's having such a great time she managed to find the time to email friends whilst on vacation and "checking out" from her usual life? :confused3

Still Dawn, it's important for us all to have a 'competitive friend', just to remind us how much we suck. Mine is doing a teacher training program, but it's a mere formality. She clearly already knows much more about teaching than me ;)

I have friends who really enjoy those spas. I bet it's a lot more relaxing than what she's making it out to seem. I also think it's a good "girl-bonding" experience. :)

OMG, you are publishing your friend's emails on the web?

My copy was personalized; but she sent it to so many "friends" and casual aquaintances that it has no doubt been all over the web. I received another copy of it from another friend who works full time and sees these emails as "too bad your life sucks". However, you don't know her, she doesn't post at all, let alone where I post, so I am not concerned.

I am actually sure it is as relaxing as she describes it, however, I am just not into relaxing in that way and spending that much $$$ to do it. Price wise, she could have stayed at a moderate in WDW, had two resort meals per day and hit all of the parks in five days. Not her thing I know, but to me, that is relaxing.

Sounds boring to me too! I need excitement, and from the information in that message, none of it spells out fun to me!

I'm more of a beach and sunshine girl. Put me anywhere with a pool and sunshine and I'm happy. Universal Studios is just something to fill the time before the midday sun kicks in :rotfl:

Sorry to challenge you on this, but if you sent a friend a personal email about your weekend/what you were doing etc and they published it on a message board for strangers to scrutinize, that wouldn't bother you?

It would bother me.

I had a friend like that once. She always knew more than her supervisors, the managers, etc. When I was younger, I almost believed her. Then she got caught bad mouthing the company to a client on a recorded line. I was amazed that they only gave her a warning. It didn't take more than 6 months after that however, for them to fire her.

Might be fun for a day but then I would want to go do something else. As someone who spent 2 months on bedrest this summer, I know for a fact how boring it can get.

No. There is no identity available. Its rather generic. She has already sent this message out to at least 80 other people, edited slightly. (the invitation for future plans is missing on some).

See mine just doesn't seem to get her comeuppance! The karma's all wrong! :rotfl:

I don't class myself as a particularly 'confident' person but I'm not insecure either but she makes me feel horrible about myself. I'm not sure that I'm a great teacher yet; I think I'm a sound teacher and I think I COULD be a great teacher but not yet. I've had a year of training and two months on the job, of course I'm not going to be great at it yet, right? But she is, apparently. Job offers flying everywhere, outstanding reviews etc. I can pass 95% off of it as 'imaginary' (for want of a politer term!) but I don't speak to her much because it makes me feel bad that I'm NOT the teacher I WANT to be yet. :sad2:

Interestingly, is your friend like mine whereby she is competitive about things she is doing well at, but also the negative side of life? Like, if I told mine that my family were (god forbid) all killed in a car crash or something, she'd tell me that "that's nothing!". Hers were all (god forbid) mauled by a rampant tiger which had been accidentally shipped over from India whilst drinking champagne at the Ritz. If I've got a cold, she's got the flu. Y'know?! :headache:

Well thanks for letting me vent!

Ugh. No. Truthfully, I'd rather just go to work!

I have friends who would LOVE it, though.

I went to a beach resort in Belize for five days of relaxation and after day two was very bored. My mind kept wandering to prior vacations in Paris and WDW. I learned that I am not the beach resort type. I need entertainment and lots of sensory stimulation.

I find this very odd that you would post this.:confused3 Not everyone has the same idea of what a vacation or relaxation is. To each his own, right? I, personally, would love a vacation like this and think it is the perfect way to de-stress. Is the purpose of this post to pass judgment on your "friend"?:confused3

No way! Like when eveyone expected us to go to cancun or somewhere for our honeymoon. A hotel and beach??? No thanks. We need entertainment. Fireworks and shows and dinners and rides and other people enjoying the exact same stuff right along side us...

That is right. To "each his own". If this is something you like, I will "hook you up". ;) The purpose of the thread is to ask, "Does this sound like fun to you?" Apparently it does to you. Apparently it is to her. To me? NO WAY! I would rather stay home. I actually gave the "short version" of our conversation. She wasn't really into taking "no, its not my thing" for an answer. I got a string of "but, why nots". I remained polite and did not tell her that I would be bored to tears.
