Does this make sense? (Verizon)

Anyone tried to downgrade their minute plan before? I called tonight since we are on the $89.99 for 1,400 minutes and have only been using between 400-600 minutes the past two months. Well, I could get 700 minutes for $69.99 however to change plans I'd have to extend my contract for two more months. This makes no sense to me at all. I signed up originally on the $69.99 plan but upgraded a few months back when I knew we would have a high month with the understanding I could downgrade at anytime, now this? :confused3
 
That has always been my experience and does not bother me because I have always been with Verizon.
 
I don't remember them saying anything to me about being able to downgrade without committing to a new agreement. My understanding is that as long as you're under contract, you can only pay them more, not less.

::yes:: That's my understanding as well and pretty typical. I just switched to Verizon the end of last year and I know this was standard practice at ATT.
 

That is pretty much industry standard, you can upgrade without extending your contract (although some companies will extend your contract if you upgrade AND get new phones), if you downgrade, they extend your contract.
 
I'm with Cingular (yuck), and believe it or not, I didn't have my contract extended. I fully expected it, since they are so annoying about everything else.
10 months to something else.

I just switched from the old (no longer available) Verizon 1000 minute plan to the 700 minute plan and they extended my contract for a year. I used to play this game with GTE and Alltel, so I guess that it is pretty typical. Be very glad that they only extended it two months.

My understanding as well. It's like Disney...they'll always enjoy updgrading you to a deluxe resort for more money, but when you want to downgrade, it turns into an all of a sudden hassle for them and you have to do more work. :goodvibes

It's all about $!

ITA with this as well. I work in a related industry, and this is fairly standard practice for nearly EVERY non pre paid cellular company out there.
 
Yep that is normal. You can never get a plan back either, they change them all the time and always up the price. Like I have 1500 for 59.99 from 3 years ago and wont change because I'll get less for more. AND word to the wise... when you change plans anytime other than your bill date, they prorate it, so if you go to 700 mins and its day 10 of your monthly bill, you only get 20 days of 700, so you get say, 460 mins for that month. They alwats get you cuz they don't explain that! I have learned make changes effective your BILL DATE or you'll go over and be charged the 40 cents per minute for each over! I have had them for 10 years and know all the tricks!
 
My dd told me that if it has been less 90 days since you last changed your price plan then you won't have a contract extention by changing plans.
