does this make sense to do for split stay on resort change day?

Hi, I am doing my first split stay in 3 weeks and trying to make sure I have things figured out ahead of time. The day we check out of POFQ and into the Poly we also are going to Early Morning Magic Hours at the MK. So we need to get to MK quite early that morning. I do know we could ask them to move our luggage for us from POFQ and just leave it with them and head to MK that morning, but I am wondering if it might make more sense to actually get an Uber early that morning over to the Poly with our luggage and leave it there ourselves? I doubt we could check in at 7 in the morning but am wondering if it might give us piece of mind to have the luggage already there and then take the monorail (does it run that early) to MK? I was reading some posts that say that you never know how long it will take for the resorts to transfer luggage and if we decide to head back to the Poly mid afternoon (after being there so early in the morning and excited to check in to Poly) will we want to make sure our luggage is there already??? What would you do? thx!

I'm the type of person that doesn't like surprises, so if I know that my luggage arrived safely at the Poly because I brought it there myself, then that's one less thing to have to worry about while on my Disney vacation. That's just me though!

We do split stays all the time and I don't mind that the luggage arrives after check in time as the chances are that the room won't be ready either!
For us it makes no sense rushing around using uber/cabs to get your bags to the resort only to have to store them with bell services anyway.

Easier to have bell services pick them up and deliver them while we are at the park :)

I don't know what time the monorail starts running, but you can check in as early as 6 am, which is when the computers roll over for the day. You can then leave your luggage with bell services and head over to MK.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but will Bell Services deliver luggage while you aren't in the room? Coming up on my first split stay!

We've done both and much prefer to let them move our luggage. We feel it's just so much easier to head to the parks for the day and then go to resort #2 late afternoon.

Ignore the below, please. I neglected to read the word "split"!!

If you are using DME to get to the resort from the airport, they will drop it in your room when you are not there. If you drop your luggage with bell services, then no. You must be in the room.

Depends on what time you think you'll want to head back to the resort
Luggage transfers are on a schedule. Each resort has a time where they do their transfers. I don't know how standard they stay, I've not tracked it, even though we do lots of split stays. They'll tell you their schedule for the transfer when you do the drop off. It's possible they can tell you before hand, it may be worth stopping by the FQ bell services desk and asking them what their transfer schedule is and you can use that info to help you decide what to do
I know when we went from FQ to CR at New Years it was quite late when our bags made it. Still by about 5:00. But when we went from CR to BWI they were quite early.
I obviously won't do you any good to have your bags before you have a room. Well, you can get them and get stuff out of them but it's a pain to do it in the lobby. Since you can't be sure you will have a room before 3:00 you pretty much have to go in it with the assumption you won't need the bags till at least 3:00. Anything earlier is a "bonus".

We generally have a car, and we've done one of two things. We either leave our bags at the first resort and go off and do our thing, then come back for the bags and go to the second resort, OR we take bags over to the second resort and then go and do our thing.

Bags cannot be expected to be there until after normal checkin time. So that's your basic timeframe.

Since you're heading towards MK anyway, I don't see an issue doing it that way if you're up for it!

I doubt we could check in at 7 in the morning

You can do the checkin process as early as 6. Heck, do online checkin and tell them you'll be there around 7am and see what happens. If they have an empty room early enough, and they know you're coming, you might get that room. Even if not, you can stash your bags and go on your merry way.

We always take our own bags - but we drive and always have a lot of stuff. We leave very early and get to the next resort by 6AM if we plan to head to a park for rope drop. The room is usually not ready (has been a couple of times though) so we leave luggage with bell services.

When we do a split stay I always put 8:00 am down as the arrival time for our next resort. And I always put "room ready early" as first priority. It's not often I get one really early but sometimes I do. On NYE we got a room ready notice about 8:30, before we were even out of bed at CR. When we went back to FQ the next day our room was ready about noon.

We did a split stay last May Poly/YC and on checkout day I left our bigger luggage with bell services for the transfer and I ubered over our "necessities" - just a couple of carry ons so I knew they would be there. It worked out great, and I was glad because we did wait quite a while for the luggage we gave to bell services, almost until dinner.

We did a Poly/BC split last trip. Our bags didn't get to us until after 4 pm which we knew was a possibility. We are midday breaks by the pool kind of people which kind of put a dent in our plans but we just napped instead. It was much needed anyway.

Next trip I am doing a POFQ/BWV split. We are going in November so depending on our plans (pool time, lunch ADR, etc that will most likely depend on the weather) I will decide then if I will Uber the bags ourselves or use bell services.

thanks all...we will not have a car ( I should have specified that I guess!) so I guess I will decide when I get there after talking with Bell Services about what time they think luggage would be brought to Poly on that day...It would be simplest to just let luggage go on its own and then just get ourselves to MK and show up mid-day to the Poly but I just do not want our luggage to not show up until 6 or so...

Mostly we plan to be gone till at least 5:00 on moving day. If the plans just don't work out, or it looks like weather may impact that, what we do is send most of our bags on with Bell Services.
We'll toss a few things (swim wear if we think we'd want to swim, a change of clothes if we think we'd need that), maybe some toiletries if we want to freshen up when we get our room, in one of our carry on bags.
We head out. The method we take sort of depends on where we are going. If it's a MK resort we'll take a bus and then monorail to our Resort and leave the bag with bell services. Sometimes it makes more sense to take Uber. I know we could just take all our bags but then we are left taking ALL our bags, needing a bigger car, etc. Plus, we call for Bell Services to come get the bags from our room, vs. having to haul them down ourselves. It's just overall easier to let them do it vs. us, even if we take Uber. Easier to move 1 bag vs. 3 or 4 (1 checked and 1 carry on each) or more if there are more of us.
That way, we have something at the next resort for sure but in all our moves we've not had it take past 5:00 to get our bags.

If it were me, I'd take an early Uber to the Poly, check-in and leave the luggage, the take the Monorail to the MK.

I mentioned our car and experiences to sort of say “this is what you can do with access to a vehicle”, and Uber is access to a vehicle. :)
