Does this ever happen to you? When I was gaining weight, certain family members would not-so-subtly make comments to me like, "are you still excercising"? or "do you still enjoy your treadmill".

Now that I'm down about 45lbs (but still not quite in my my healthy BMI range - about 7lbs above the upper end of my BMI), I'm getting different comments. Now I'm getting, "are you eating enough calories each day"? or "are you eating a good size breakfast"?

I absolutely can't win. I'm still not in my ideal weight range, yet I'm starting to get comments that I'm getting too thin. I'd still like to get down another 20lbs (so I'm well into my healthy BMI range) but I just know these comments are going to continue. This is CRAZY. If any of you deal with similar issues, how do you handle it?? :confused3

STAY THE COURSE!
Don't let anyone detract you from your goals! Most people do not know what healthy eating or what a healthy body should look like!

You are doing what most people do not have the discipline to do! :thumbsup2

I go through the same thing but refuse to let negative thoughts keep me down. I feel better and dang it I look good too! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

STAY STRONG!

Suppose the folks saying this stuff are envious? :thumbsup2

You just keep going and good for you!!!!

The worst comment that I got in the last year was from my friend. She said "You look like you are losing weight. Are you sick?" That just floored me. She has since lost as much as I have but I didn't ask her that kind of question.

Many People are rude and could care less about your feelings.

They are jealous!! Stay the course and keep at it. Your doing fantastic. The only comment that matters is your Dr.'s. Congratulations!

I had a relative who would do this all the time....okay, it's my mother. You know, the one who has the most power? She is a very narcissistic, self-involved woman and always has been, and my appearance and weight has always been a reflection on her (or so she thinks). When she's not disowning me and the part of my family that's "responsible" for my weight problem, she's trying to correct me. When I decided to do something about my health, I figured the only way I'd succeed with this is to completely distance myself from her. Drastic, I know, and most people would not be able to do this for all the guilt (of which I have plenty), but finally I have to get healthy, and I have to work on the physical part of healthy without her (I'm sure I'll have to work on the mental/emotional part of it later).

I've come to the conclusion that most people just need to keep their mouths moving, whether or not what they're saying makes sense or is in any way helpful.

My mother-in-law is a wonderful person and I love her dearly, but each time I've been good about what I eat, she cautions me all over about my nutrition being 'too one-sided.' I lost quite a bit of weight 2 years ago by following Atkins and then South Beach, and she never had one supportive thing to say about my new way of eating, just this 'one-sided' nonsense. I mean, what had I cut out of my diet that was such a nutritional powerhouse? Was it the candy bars or the ice cream?

I was eating salads, vegetables, lean meats, etc., but she kept saying I shouldn't eat all that meat and so many eggs. Sorry, what?

The concern is nice, of course, but why do I have to keep correcting the same silly misperceptions over and over?

I have to agree, that today, many people just could care less about anyones' feelings and just say the rudest things! I have had many positive comments, but also, some of the rudest.

Mindy, I too have had to struggle with my mother over my weight. With comments on 'why do you let yourself get so big' etc. Oh, like I want to feel horrible. Yes, I do have health issues, and my current doctor, who I have been seeing since the end of January, is the first to help me get where I want to be, and that has included a 40 weight loss. My mother does tell me how much better I look, but I also remember the comments that were so negative and emotionally scarring. I am sending you lots of good wishes and best of luck on your journey! You are very important and I can feel that you are going to do just great!

Wendy
