Well, I got the NC first for xmas and when I discovered I couldn't actually read it outside well (even on the night setting), I ordered a refurbished e-ink Nook and use that almost exclusively for reading now. I am at soccer games and baseball games too often to have to fight the glare of the sun to be able to read.
So, what is it you are most interested in doing with your Nook? Yes, magazines on the NC look cool, but of the 4 or so single issues I've bought, they have been filled with advertisements. I suppose paper magazines are as well but I didn't notice how many until I had to flip thru all the pages of ads on my NC. I am too chicken to root the thing for fear I will disable it so I'm waiting for B&N to give me some applications.
I saw on ebay today that they are selling refurbished NC now from the BN ebay store for $224 - personally, I don't think that is enough of a discount for a refurbished but others may want to consider it.
