For my birthday, Mom's day, & Easter, I've hinted about the Nook ;). I hear its a great ereader and wannabe Ipad all rolled into one. I have an ipod touch and love it, but the screen is kind of small for reading. I've borrowed ebooks from the online library, but never read one, mostly due to the size. Is it worth it to spend the 250+ for this if I already have an ipod? I have a 10% coupon for Best Buy that may or may not be usuable on this. If not, I have a 50 gift card from Staples (a rebate from years ago) that I could use if/when Staples starts carrying them. Would you go for it, and where would you buy it from?

We got my DD (14) one for Christmas last year & she loves it and so do I! She shares it with me but I really want my own. We both have magazine subscriptions that we get on the nook color. It only has WiFi but it is easy to surf the net on it with a WiFi connection. We also have several books on it and I have no trouble reading off of it at all.

YES!! It really does...Its such a clear screen and unlike the Ipods, you can change your settings and read outside in the sunlight with the NC

my almost 16 yr dd loves hers. They have great customer service also. Her did stop working after 30 days. I called they tried to trouble shoot and could not fix it. They sent her a brand new one. I returned the old one.

check on ebay ...barnes and noble has their own ebay store right before christmas they had referbed reg nooks for $69 with a 1 yr warranty works great no problems keep checking and good luck btw ive been hinting at the same thing(i love cooking mags and wouldnt one to get a sub. without having a color nook)

I honestly didn't like it. I felt that the pdf viewer edited the quality of items so that the image is less then stellar. I suppose this is there way of making sure you buy everything from them. I also didn't like the way that only some magazines looked good. I tried to love it but wasn't sold so I returned mine.

I have a nook color and we rooted it to be a low end Android tablet. A couple of things

1. None of us like to read regular books on it. For those we prefer the Kindle (or eInk reader of your choice).

2. I've put a few magazines on there and they are okay. I'm not a huge magazine reader though so okay is just fine with me.

3. It isn't near as nice as my husband's iPAD. If you buy it expecting a near iPAD experience you will be disappointed.

4. It plays Angry Birds very well. Movies too.

5. PDF files are kind of iffy. It works but I usually end up stealing my husband's iPAD for those.

I love :cloud9: mine.

Word is that it will be getting flash support and droid apps in the coming weeks. http://www.businessinsider.com/nook-color-getting-android-apps-and-flash-2011-3

I do a lot of reading on it, and I use it for work (pdfs, excel spreadsheets, word documents and powerpoints). Certainly don't purchase it if you're expecting a laptop computer; it's not that (I don't know why people insist on comparing it to tablets; that's not what it was intended for).

I've never had any issues with it...except....

It's so easy to buy new books :rotfl:

Last night, I finished the book I was reading, went into the B&N online store, double click, and the new book was ready to go.

what is Angry birds and how do you play movies on your nook I have one I go on the web and read but I didnt know anyhting about movies!!!

I LOVE mine! As PPs have pointed out, it is not comparable to a tablet/notebook... it's not supposed to be! My girls and I only use it to read books and, for that, we think it's great. :thumbsup2

Angry Birds is a game - it's pretty much the number one game in both iTunes and the Android Market.

The nook color plays mp4 movies.

ok another dumb question how do you play it on the nook do you have to download it if so how do you do that?

You have to have your nook color rooted and then you can get it either from the Android Market or the Amazon App store.

If you don't have your nook color rooted I imagine it will be one of the first games Barnes and Noble list when they come out with their own Apps.

It usually costs 99cents but it frequently pops up for free. I think I have 3 versions now - original, seasons, and Angry Birds Rio.
It's quite stupid and really addicting.

How do you get your Nook color "rooted"? And how do I change the setting to read outside?

That said I LOVE mine. I mostly only read books on mine but I have looked at a magazine or two. Granted it isn't an IPAD but I can easily check my email, news, Facebook etc. I love that you can check books out from the library (free) and share books with friends.

One thing I do like - I keep my Calibre eBook library stored on Dropbox (yes I strip DRM). So as long as I have a WiFI connection I can connect to Dropbox and download any book I own no matter what Vendor I bought it from and download it instantly. It's really cool.

What is rooting? And how do you strip the DRM? I have Calibre and I thought that was capable of that. But I can't figure it out. You can send me a PM if you don't want to post it here. Thanks for any help you can give!

I love mine. I am on it now. I need to take the time to root it.

Thank you. I actually understand those directions.

Thought I read that there's a way to root with an SD card, so the Nook can be brought back to factory specs? Is it even worth it to root if they are adding apps?
