I am not good with spinning things. I chickened out on the Cat In the Hat last year at the last minute. Can somebody tell me some details about either of these rides??? Do they go fast and spin alot???

I can tell you I hated Countdown to Extinction. HATED HATED HATED IT. I had my eyes closed the entire time and remember NONE of the ride. I just wanted it over.
This might give you a guideline to go by.

The Cat in the Hat doesn't spin too much, maybe 2-3 times and it's very mild. My daughers (when they were 3 and 1) loved it.

MIB spins much more - so much so that I was glad I didn't bring the 3 year old with me.

i do coasters but i know that anyone can take the spining on the cat and the hat. This is the only kiddy ride ever with wornings for expecting mothers:p

MiB and Cat in the Hat are nowhere as jerky as Dinosaur. The spinning is smooth, but the Cat in the Hat can make you sick because it spins around a lot. MiB can spin around around 4-6 times, maybe a bit more.

MIB was great, didn't notice is spinning all that much. It is very fun. Cat in the Hat however has got to be the worst ride in Orlando. I thought I wouldn't make it off without being sick, and we had already taken our Dramamine. It's hard to explain about this ride, but to give you any indication, I love the tilt o whirl ride at regular carnivals ( and it spins most of the time). Also love roller coasters, but will never again go on Cat in the Hat.

My boyfriend can go on almost any ride without feeling sick, but he felt sick after riding cat in the hat. From what I remember towards the end of the MIB ride it spins around really fast. I would skip both these rides if you're worried about getting sick.

But if I'm remembering correctly, the other posters are right. It DOES spin quite a bit.

I think part of the problem with the spinning is that it'll spin once in one direction, then as you're continuing to move down the track, it'll start spinning in the other direction. I think there were some hops in there, too.

I also rode MIB, but I think you can take the spinning easier there because your targets are further away. On CITH, the walls just seem soooo close that it's hard to get a distant point of reference to fix on and before you know it, those bright primary colors are whirling in front of your eyes. (Kinda the point to the whole ride)

Hope we've helped ya some!

A Universal CM on another post mentioned that you can ask them to turn off the spinning on the Cat in the Hat. If you tend to get motion sick I would suggest it. It really spins quite a bit.

My wife gets motion sick and she took meds before the ride and did just fine. She will never go a theme park without dramamine again.

MIB spins too, but it isn't nearly as bad or as frequent. I think you could tolerate that one better than CITH, IMHO.

Both rides are clever and fun, so if you can figure out a way to ride them comfortably, you should do so. They both surprised us with how much fun they were.

DisneyFanGuy,,

Thanks! That's great news in reference to being able to turn off the spinning for the ride. Do you remember where you saw that post? Would like to read it. If that is really true then we can now go on it. Won't take a chance otherwise, I know my husband would definitely get dizzy on it.

The post was on this board, and I saw it just before we went so it had to be in early March. Unfortunately I don't think that they transferred over everything when they switched servers. I am going to look anyway and if I find the post I will send you a link.

You might give Guest Services at Universal a call. I'm sure that they would be able to answer.

It made sense that they could turn off the spinning though. Each "couch" holds six people and spins independently. I didn't ask, but when you see the set up of the ride it really makes sense that they could turn off one car without affecting anything else.

Good luck!

DisneyFanGuy,

Thanks for replying. I'll check out their older posts.

I get a little dizzy on MIB near the end but have done it 5 times in a row so it does not bother me that much. I have done CITH once and noticed it spin some but not seem bad to me at all.

Well, I was on both today. I think the CITH is much worse then MIB. I hate things that spin. It seems the reason for CITH being worse is the way it spins with all the colors & bright lights. I went on MIB four times, it spins twice, one time a lot, but you are concentrating on shooting & it's fast & over in a smokey fog.
I will keep going on MIB, it's an awesome ride, never again CITH for me!
