Does shortening a Waitlist lose my place in line?

I have a waitlist for a AKV concierge studio for Christmas week. I called at exactly the 11-month window exactly when MS opened and all the studios were already GONE. I booked a savanna view and Waitlisted for the concierge. I don't really think that we will be at AKV for the whole time I have the SV or when I have the concierge studio waitlisted for and I am thinking that the extended length of the stay (8 days, 12/18 - 12/26) may be why I am not popping off the WL. We will probably be in Tampa for Christmas itself so I could pare the WL back to only 4-5 days.

Will changing the check-out or check-in date of a WL "reset" it? That is, will they have to cancel and rebook the WL and will I lose my place in line? I assume that I am very near the top of the WL but I need to have all 8 of those days come through before the WL is filled.

When I changed our waitlist request a few days ago, I was told that changing the request by only one night would not result in a change in our waitlist position. If we had wanted to change the dates altogether or had changed the number of nights by more than one, then we would have gone to the bottom of the list again.

So you would remove ONE day, but not more than one? That's crazy. I wonder if I can remove one day per week .
