Does rain put a "damper" on your cruise experience?

Cruising next week and the long range forecast is for cool, rainy weather(although I don't really put much stock in any forecast beyond,oh,say.....NOW!)What was your experience with less than ideal weather and how's Castawy Cay in the rain?TIA :umbrella: :boat:

dont know the one day it rained I was stuck on ship at key west with dd she was sick and at the end of the day it poored so i cant help you

When we went on the 3 day it rained while we were at CC. We waited to get off the ship until the rain was lighter. We wore our swimsuits and nylon jackets. My boys and I went snorkling, then we ate lunch as soon as it opened up. There is a game pavillion, and we signed my 11YO into the lab there and told my 13 YO to stay put and play the games (giant chess and connect4, ping pong, etc.). My sister and I walked over to Serenity Bay with the idea that we would have a Konk Kooler, but there is no covering on their bar! We walked back ( at this point the rain is heavier and there is thunder) to tell the boys we were going to the bar that is right on the water's edge and we would be back. One of the lifeguards told us we could not leave due to the weather conditions! I guess I whined enough about needing a KK, as he said he could not force me to stay, but it was suggested that we remain under cover. So we ran to the bar! We had a drink and talked to the CMs there, then looked in the shop, picked up the boys, and headed back to the ship.

Was it disappointing that the day we had so eagerly awaited was not as we planned? Absolutely! Did this ruin the day for us? No way! The boys had a great time snorkling, enjoyed the soft-serve ice cream at lunch, and had a blast with the games. We still got to enjoy the beauty of the island, though not quite as we had expected. And had a Konk Kooler!

For those who did not want to go ashore, they added many things on the ship: an early showing of the night show, extra movies and bingo, and other activities.

rain doesn't ruin are time either... besides don't you spend most of the time in the water anway ??? :umbrella: we do anyway

and there are plenty of covered seats and tables on CC as well

We had rain on and off t/o our crusie and it was more of a welcome..With the heat...the rain was nice. It didn't put any damper on our vacation. Of course when it rained at CC it didn't even start until it was time to board the ship. But when we were in San Jaun...it pourd.....we were soaked both the first night there...but also on/off the whole next day at shore. Then in Nassau....I don't remember it raining at all that day...except maybe as the ship was heading back to sea. I know one night...Pirate night...with the deck party....well it was rained out and we ended up having the deck party in the atrium instead. Turned out fine....maybe a little more crouded inside that it would have been out on the deck....but it was still great.

Rain or no rain...it was a wonderful time.

eeyoresmom-

Where are you getting your information? We're on the 1/16 Wonder as well. I just checked the 10 day outlook on the weather channel's site. They say 64 and scattered showers on Sunday in Port Canaveral, 75 and partly cloudy for Monday in Nassau. It doesn't go beyond Monday. Just curious about your source?

Weather clip for the 1/16 Wonder
Jan 17 Partly Cloudy 75°/63° 10 %

Copied those from the weather Channel for Nassau on Monday. The Port Canaveral forecast, well, we wore sweatshirts onto the ship last time we sailed in January, so no surprise if it is not swimming weather.

Obsessively Compulsively Planning how to dress for the weather on my cruise....

Okay, I just checked accuweather.com -- highs in the mid-60's and windy (no rain) for the whole cruise. Let's hope the Weather Channel is correct!

I had checked weather.com but only through the 16th.just got me thinking about the possibility of rain though.Regarding these long range forecasts, I believe they're nothing more than a wild guess.Over Thanksgiving I spent the week in So California and checked the forecasts (several different ones) THAT MORNING....All said the typical so cal weather of mostly sunny 73 degrees for the week.We froze our ***off all week.At one point I was wearing ALL the tops I had brought(and I live in Massachusetts) I have been to Disney and on other Caribbean cruises in January and experience has taught me to be prepared for anything! :boat:

We too had rain off and on while on our cruise. For the most part it was very sporadic and did not put a damper on our vacation at all. In San Juan on the second day we were drenched!! Hurricane Jean was brewing up and we got some of the rain before she hit the next day, luckily were were far away by then. It was quite welcoming with the heat. The only damper was that they could not do the Pirate Party on deck that night. They had everyone in the lobby, and everyone made the best of it. In most cases, they make sure that there is plenty to do on board on rainy days so that you do not get bored. Also, there is always a movie you can go see or you can go play Bingo. You just make the best of it. Afterall, your on vacation which is better than being at home just about any day.

I am just so envious of folks that travelled that last two weeks to FL....80 degrees sounded so great!

Maybe if I pack only cool weather clothes it will be hot!

In August rain moved our Sail Away Party inside to the atrium. It was a little disappointing after seeing everyone's pictures here. It was very crowded and just didn't have the excitement I was expecting, but certainly didn't ruin our cruise. We had some rain on our day at sea also but in the evening. Didn't bother us at all.

So if it does rain, it isn't like we're going to melt. I napped right through a drizzle on CC and on Great Bay Beach at Sint Maarten last cruise. You just drape the extra beach towel over your head and close your eyes, its fine, its warm.

But lets say it is a hard rain. Hmm. A movie theater. A spa including fitness center. Room service. All the rest of that stuff on the Navigator I've never gotten to. A chance to just read that paperback I've been wishing I could get to while DS is busy in the Lab instead of tugging on me. Disney classics, animated and otherwise, in room. A nap. And then more food.

And, in case the weather is so bad that hell has frozen over, there might even be a chance for DW and I to ...well, you know...or at least get started until we get paged that DS wants to spend time with us...

Sunny day at work, or a rainy day onboard DCL. Anyone, anyone? Didn't think so. C'mon, lets get some chicken fingers at Pluto's to have something to eat on the way down to Parrot Cay for lunch.

logan1_2000- You're right, it's not the end of the world. Yet, we all cruise for different reasons: ports, swimming, shipboard activities, etc. In my case, my DS has SAD (Seasonal Affectedness Disorder) and we try to cruise in winter months to expose him to the sun (it's been awfully cloudy/rainy/cold here in Wash,DC). :umbrella: I can handle a day or two of rain, as long as it's not a washout. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it's warm enough to wear shorts and the sun shows itself now or then. :sunny:

Here's the latest weather report. Could be worse!

Sunday, Port Canaveral -- Showers 64
Monday, Nassau -- Scattered Showers 75
Tuesday, Cast. Cay -- Partly Cloudy 76

We went on Dec 9 cruise and...it was kind of cold and breezy and it drizzled some. We couldn't do much cause the water was cold. We didn't do any activities. We had lunch there and let the kids play on the sand. They went in the water only up to their knees. Even though we didn't get the chance to enjoy what Castaway Cay has to offer...we had a nice time. It didn't damper our trip cause we knew it is a Disney trip...anything Disney is always a magical trip.

Hey Logan...if CC is a rain out I will buy chicken strips for EVERYONE!!

woohooo!!! Anne the big spender
