is there an extra fee for this service and how much and what are your experiences and do you recommend it?

Much thanks.

Nope- the cost is exactly the same as if you were at one resort. You will need to book each different resort separately- they will be different reservations. Have fun!

Disney doesn't have what they call split stays. They view them as separate reservations. Meaning you would have to put a deposit down for each resort. Plus when booking ADRs your window would open for each part--If you booked the Sports for 4 days and then moved to the Pop, at 180 days out you could only book ADRs for the Sports part of your trip. Each part is a totally separate reservation, and not 2 parts of a whole, if that makes sense.

We love it because it gets us to see different resorts. This summer we are doing 3 different resorts in 2 weeks. I wouldn't do a 1 night split stay. The last time we did it - we were 3 nights in one hotel and 3 nights in the other. Or we have done 3 and 4 nights. The day that we are moving we make it a day that we will be out all day so we don't worry not having a room. We have DW move our bags. Have fun!

We've done that a few times, only $ cost is the extra gratuities for the bell staff who moved our stuff.....peanuts in the big picture

We do it often! I am on a mission to stay at all the resorts! :yay:

They make it super easy for you. Pack up your bags in the morning and head to the parks, and magically your luggage will show up at your new resort in your room! Haha!

Go for it!

Doesn't cost anything extra but I will just give a heads up that your luggage doesn't always magically appear in your room. I had a (very) split stay last Sept (4 hotels in 2 weeks) and I had to call down to luggage services every time even after being checked in for hours. The luggage also took about 40 mins on average to arrive once I had rung so I'd prepare for that. Waiting for your luggage at 12.30am after a long day in the parks when you have a pre-opening ADR is not so pleasant.

Other than that minor issue I love a split stay!

Yup, that's normal operating procedure. The only time your luggage will be delivered to your room without you physically being in the room is when Magical Express delivers your luggage from MCO.

100% yep.

With DME, the luggage delivery gratuity is already covered by Disney. That is not so when we hand over bags to Bell/Luggage Services. So they have to make policies that allow their people the possibility of a tip. That's why there is no automatic delivery of bags to the room when we hand the bags over to them.

I've been known to stop at the Bell desk to pick up my bags. At SSR once or twice I did that, they loaded bags onto a cart and took bags and me and DS over to the room. :) And once at BWV I was able to stop by and tell them that I was on my way to my room and could they meet me with my bags. But on a recent AKV stay they wouldn't do the latter, and told me to call once I was in my room.

I've never had it take 40 minutes; what a bummer!

If you are attempting a split stay during free dining or some other perk period, you'll have to meet the requirements of the stay at both resorts. So if you have to buy park admission to meet the requirement, you'll have to do it at both.

Very easy if you are booking room only reservations. gets a little bit more complicated if you book packages. I think (we never book these so I don't have personal experience with package issues).

No charge except tips if you get WDW bell services move the luggage. If you take your bags and grab a cab to go check in at resort #2 (we sometimes do this to have continued access to our luggage, for example) then you will need to add cab fare.

We just returned from a trip where we stayed in three different resorts: Poly (3 nights), Beach Club (4 nights), and Art of Animation (4 nights). Staying in different resorts made our trip seem longer somehow. Packing up twice and moving meant about an hour extra time in the morning (twice). Plus we tipped on both ends of each move so for us that was an extra $60 (We tipped $15 for them to move 10 bags total.) The plus side of multiple resorts is that you can match your resort to the closest theme park (Poly - MK, Beach Club - Epcot or HS). The down side is that you never feel totally settled in. And it seemed like we were continually looking for things unsure of what piece of luggage it had ended up in.

The only way it makes sense to me is buy tickets on the first reservation. If you have to add tickets onto the second reservation, you're overpaying for the tickets. For instance, 10 days, 2 resorts, first reservation 5 days and a 10 day tickets, second reservation just 5 days at the resort. If you want to add dining, it gets more complicated.

The other thing to be aware of is that your bags won't be at your new resort until at least 3pm. And as others have said, since you need to be in the room when they are delivered, you'll either need to wait for them at the end of your day (the longest we've waited is 10-15 min), or plan a late-afternoon break to have the bags delivered and unpack (which is what we usually do).
