Does Grand Floridian Cafe celebrate birthdays?

On a separate thread, folks suggested that we celebrate a birthday at the Grand Floridian. While the food gets great reviews, on a separate thread, someone mentioned that the restaurant didn't acknowledge their daughter's birthday even though the asked about the birthday at check-in.

I care most about celebrating the birthday and second is the food. We definitely want to either be in the MK (where I can't seem to get a reservation anywhere) or on the monorail.

There is no guarantee that any given restaurant will do anything to celebrate or acknowledge a birthday or other special event, even when they are notified of the event ahead of time. The level of acknowledgement might even depend completely on which server you happen to get. You could up the ante when you check into the restaurant by asking (out of earshot of the celebrant) if you can have Happy Birthday sung at your table (that'd probably be the most I'd ask for in that situation - not sure what exactly you would like the restaurant to do.)

The only way to guarantee it is to arrange for a paid celebration package, custom cake or special dessert, etc. If you're at the Grand Floridian you can arrange for the chocolate slipper dessert, which is very popular for special occasions.

This is true. We just celebrated my DD10's b-day and my in-laws 40th anniversary at Disney in Oct. When I called to make all my dining reservations I had them make a note of these on every one. Well, nothing special happened. Not a cupcake or even a Happy B-day or Happy Anniversary. I wasn't irritated because I had already read here on the dis about it. So please don't go in expecting something. It's great if they do but shouldn't be relied on. The only thing we received was the $100 cake I ordered for my DD's b-day.
