My mom and I are doing the Royal Family 5K next month. I'm walking it with her since I'm also doing the 1/2 on Sunday. She's been training around a 16:30 pace, and I'm sure with the race atmosphere, she'll be down to 16:00 min miles on race day. I really want to get pictures with characters along the course together, but I doubt we'll both have time to stop if Disney is strict about the pace rule. Since the course doesn't go out on the main roads, are they usually strict and sweep people? Worst case scenario, I'll stop for pictures solo, then run and meet her after. I would just prefer to get pictures together...

Not in my experience. I walked the 5K with my parents this past marathon weekend, and it took us 52:00 to finish because of the crowds and my stroller (it was packed, so it was impossible to pass with the stroller). My mom was actually quite put out because she trained to finish in under 45:00, and then the rest of us slowed her down. :rotfl: We seemed to finish in a large clump of people (after the 45:00 time limit) and there were still lots of people behind us.

Disney may clean up the really slow stragglers, if need be, but in my experience, they won't bother you at all if you're making an effort to finish in good time.

It is more fun run oriented and they do not have a history of sweeping folks since the race is mostly in a park and held a couple hours pre-opening. That being said, there is always a first time. Sounds like you are more than safe. I know a couple who are perienially in the 60 minute range for the January event.

The only 5k that creates any pause on not moving at a 116-18 minute pace is the Halloween one. I would be afraid of not being allowed back onto World Dr for the last mile down to the finish if I were too slow.... but again, plenty of examples of folks taking a bit longer.

I had just posted this same question on the thread about getting swept in a Disney race. I'm doing the Royal Family 5k and I am SOOO excited. I had been training for the Princess 1/2 but the day before Thanksgiving I was given the crappy news from my ortho that due to my congenital hip dysplasia, running is not really an option for me :sad2: I had been training for the half and even gotten up to doing 6 miles in my training. I'm more of a walker than an runner, but I have managed to do a little jogging with out pain. I'm hoping that on race day I walk/jog faster than ever because of how excited I am, but I still have that looming thought of being the loser swept from the 5k lol This news of no sweeping during a 5k gives me great relief though, I hope that you are all right, and that they don't just decide to do it this year!! Good luck everybody and thanks for the info!! See you guys soon!
