Does Disney give priority to people who "own" DVC over people who rent DVC rooms through Disney (re room requests)?

Does anyone know if Disney give priority when granting room requests, to DVC owners, over those who maybe rented Villas through Disney? Or is everyone considered equal at that point?

AFAIK they don’t give owners preference over renters/guests staying on someone else’s points. But, the ins & outs of villa assignments & meeting requests are mostly a mystery to me. It’d be an interesting question to ask a manager at a resort, though.

I doubt it. The assigners have no easy way to know who owns the points with which a reservation was made.

AFAIK, they try to grant requests, but unless there is a vacancy (i.e., someone checking out the day you want to check in) they can't meet the request. That's the main reason guests do not get their request and FWIW, a lot of guests request the same thing.

We almost always can find something to like about our villa. For the last few trips, I haven't made any requests and was quite pleased with what we were assigned.

Isn't there a check box when you reserve a room that asks if the person is a member? It wouldn't be 100% accurate because it relies on input from the individual making the reservation but they do have some data.

i don't think so. In my experience, flexibility is the key. I've had more success with room requests when no other conditions are added, such as early check in.
I have both direct and resale contracts and overall, i'm very satisfied with the 70% success rate. Can't win them all!

I think the OP means guests booking villas as cash (through Disney) as opposed to staying on points, whether rented or owned. I've done both and seem to have the best luck stopping at the FD before I get the room ready text to see if any of my requests were granted.

I do not think that info goes to the room assigners though.

I would doubt they have info or priority based on owner or not. But I will add I called one year to add a request starting speaking with the CM about it and she mentioned something about a little Disney Magic and the request of a particular view was met in a big way.... So there may be some way a special request can be put through but I just do not think it is a person is sitting there sorting by owner not owner rented through Disney etc.

Yes this is what Meant thanks!

To a certain extent, I think the answer to the original question may be yes, but the answer has little to do with the room location managers giving DVC Members any preference over Disney cash quests. That is because most cash quests through Disney give room requests, if any are made, via the request page found online when they check-in via MDE, while many DVC members with experience will avoid that page and make requests through MS. If you have been through those online request pages, you will notice there are not many that can be made and a number of them are ridiculous. For example, at Animal Kingdom Kidani, you can request, during online check-in, that you be near an elevator. With three sets of elevators along each wing, and no option during online check-in to name the elevator, that request can be met by placing you in any room in the building.

I don't own but have rented twice. Both times, the owners put in the requests for me and I was given them (though, they were pretty generic).

We know (believe?) the room assigners know what requests have been made regarding a given reservation. We don’t know whether that information includes when the request was submitted, whether it was submitted via MS, Disney reservations, or even Touring Plans, or anything else about the request. We do know that assigning rooms is like playing Tetris for them, juggling requests with checkouts and checkins!

They don't need that. They can tell because they have your name on the membership and on the reservation - do those two things match - yep - good. Because identity is all tied together at Disney now for MDE, its an easy check. They can tell if the member is booked into the room - they just probably don't do anything with that information.

Personally, I'd like to see members staying on their own points giving priority in room assignments, but I don't think it happens or is likely to - they don't care. And yes, that would mean that if my adult child used my points without me, they wouldn't get priority on a room request, but we've had such poor luck with room requests over the past nearly 25 years that I don't think it really matters - again, they don't care.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought at OKW, the hospitality house area (as a request) doesn't show up for non-owners on the app. It would be nice if each DVC property had the "best" rooms set aside for owners. Now is it fair that a renter could also get those?

Wouldn’t it be nice if members staying on their own points at their home resort had their requests considered first, after all they’re the ones paying the MFs.

At OKW, Near Hospitality House is a booking category, not a request, just like BW View is a booking category at BWV. My understanding is that category is not shown to or not available to cash guests, but I’ve never tried to book OKW for cash so I can’t confirm that. A DVC owner who rented an OKW stay could book the renter into that category, of course.
