Will Disney ever "buy back" a members contract?:confused3

We would just like Disney to take back our contract and call it even with what we owe (which is less than what we paid.) We just want out of it. Or, you think they would let us swap our points for another home resort?:rolleyes2 We just really don't want to be calling SSR "home" any more. First mistake....didn't "buy where we want to stay."

Sorry your DVC purchase hasn't worked out for you.

Disney will buy back points, but for very low prices. You'd do much better on the resale market. Contact The Timeshare Store (see link above), they're very highly regarded by the folks here who've done business with them.

They won't let you swap resorts. DVC is a real estate purchase. It'd be like buying a house, then after closing, wanting to swap it for the house down the street. If you want to change resorts, you'll need to sell the current contract, and buy a new contract.

Hi, Chillicothe!!! We are in Columbus, but grew up in southern OH (South Point - near Ironton).

I'm sorry to hear that DVC (SSR specifically) is not for you. As for selling back to Dis, I've read where people get very little out of their contract compared to what they could get on the resale market. If you have the time and patience, that would definitely be your best bet. Otherwise, you may end up getting less out of it than what you owe.

I'd give Disney a call and see what they would give you. Otherwise, it appears that SSR is selling anywhere from $70 per point - high $70s, just depends on the contract size and number of points available (see the ROFR thread). Seems most brokers charge around 10% of the selling price.

One last thought. Unless you're just wanting to sell period, we have had GREAT luck at getting reservations at other resorts at the 7 month window. In fact, we're staying at AKV in April (over Easter - spring break) and this summer, we're going to Vero and then spending almost a week at BCV. As long as I call right at 7 months, I've been very fortunate.

Best of luck with whatever decision you make. :thumbsup2

DH and I purchased a timeshare right after we bought our home many moons ago and regretted it shortly thereafter. It just wasn't in our budget at that time. We were able to turn the deed over and call it even. I think it was called "quit deed". They sent us the paperwork to sign and that was it. It didn't work out too bad as we did use it for one week before we gave it up for our $1000 deposit. If it is not a burden for you, why don't you try to sell it with the Timeshare store and see what they can do unless you think you owe more than SSR is getting for resale right now. Now might be a good time to try to sell SSR resale since DVC reopened sales for SSR due to the THV. Good luck in whatever you decide.

From what I've heard here, Disney rarely buys back contracts, and then only for specific resorts. On the rare occasions where they do buy back, the normal price you hear is around $55 per point.

Whether they'd buy back SSR is questionable. The only way to tell for sure is to contact your guide or call Member Administration and ask them.

Disney does do the ROFR. So if you put it on the market at Timeshare store (or somewhere else) take any offer you get. Disney then buys it if they think the offer is too low. I think they buy it at your contract offer price. So hopefully you can get it resold.

And I also have had great luck at the 7 month window. Probably won't work as well at AKV or BLT but for BCV and BWV its worked fine. :-)

I had no problem getting 1 full week at the Jambo House last year at the 7 month window.

If you don't mind me asking... Why don't you like SSR?
We just really do not like the atmosphere there. I felt it not nearly as "Disney" as the other resorts we have stayed at. The resort is entirely to big for us and the bus service was HORRIBLE! We have enjoyed all the other DVC resorts we have stayed at, but recently have had a lot of issues with trying to get in at other resorts when we want. With the new "enhancements" member services has made such as limiting our waitlists to 2 active requests at any given time, I fear we may find ourselves stuck at SSR more often

Hi Columbus! We are up your way several times a month!
Our guide said as a rule of thumb, no they do not just "buy back" contracts. They do buy them thry ROFR which we knew. We love DVC, just not our home resort of SSR. We did add on 60 points at BLT so we could remain members while we sold our SSR contract. After we get our SSR sold we would like to purchase again, but will most definitely purchase where we would like to stay most often, not what has the best incentive at the time.

Did you have to use a broker or pay any closing fees? What exactly is a quit deed?

We own at SSR too (most of our points) and have no intention of ever staying there. We've have good luck with booking at the 7 month window(sometimes less) and have stayed at Wilderness Lodge Villas, BCV, and AKV (twice).
We are very nervous about what the new restrictions will bring as well. Time will tell

We bought at VWL in 2001 and have only stayed there twice. We have never had any problem getting into resorts we want. Listen, I'm always happy just to be there. If I can't get into BCV then I'll take BWV or OKW. VWL is not my style but you know what when I am there...I make the most of it. I sit before the fireplaces and rock. I play checkers. I just get into it. I won't go back there again for a long time but it's my home resort.

Another Columbus (Upper Arlington) member :) :wave2:

I'm sorry you don't like SSR :( We just stayed there and loved it! Our home is AKV though. My friend owns at SSR and like a pp stated, has no trouble getting other resorts at the 7m widow. Good luck!
