Does DCL transportation take us to Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort after cruise?

We decided to stay a few extra days in Orlando after our cruise at Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort so we can visit Universal Studios for a few days. We are staying at POFQ prior to our cruise and have paid for transportation to the cruise from our Disney resort and back but up until today (when we changed our plans) the DCL transportation was going to take us to the airport after the cruise. Will they take us to our Universal hotel now? If not, what are our options?

No. DCL transfers only operate between the airport and WDW resorts. If you want to go elsewhere, you need to arrange private transportation (rental car or town car).

I am scratching my head trying to think of an instance where Disney would agree to pick up or drop off at a competitor resort.....
i realize the odds of disney transportation taking us to universal is not good but at the port, when we arrive, is there some type of transportation for people to go to universal resorts rather than disney. Since we have always stayed only at disney resorts this is new to us and and we are lost as to what our options would be.

we dont want to drive ourselves. We prefer to be driven to the hotel. So is there a shuttle or bus of some type. We cant be the only people on the ship going to a universal resort.

I would check with your Universal Hotel and see if they offer a shuttle like Disney does to their hotel after the DCL bus drops you at the airport. Or you could rent a car, get a limo service or even see if Uber has the ability to go from airport to Universal and back. I personally would rent a car to get around Orlando if you are staying a few days after the cruise :)

I'd suggest asking your new resort if they have any sort of shuttle service. I don't think they do. I believe you're limited to a rental car, town car, or even a taxi (but that would be costly).

Then definitely check with your Universal hotel about transport from the airport to the hotel since you have transport from port to airport.

The easiest option is to just cancel the Disney transfers and book your own car to take you to the ship, then ship to Cabana Bay, then Cabana Bay to airport. Universal is not currently offering transfers unless you purchase a Universal package and even then it is only from the airport.

we are not going to cancel our transportation from our disney resort to the cruise. There is no need for that. But we may cancel the return from the cruise since our destination has now changed from the airport to a universal resort. ANother option may be to just keep our disney transport and have them take us back to our diseny resort and hop an uber from there.

I'm not sure you can take DCL transfers to a resort you no longer have a reservation for. I could be wrong.

We are having a bit of the same issue. We need to get from Cabana Bay to the port, although its for a RCCL cruise. They do not offer anything that I can see. I asked when we booked our hotel and they were no help. We have booked a car service since we don't wish to drive either. There are only two of us so it is more expensive than taking the bus however it is not a bad option.
If you have more than two people to transfer you may wish to check out that option as well.
Just a thought. :flower1:

You could still keep the transport from DCL to the airport and pick up a taxi to Universal resort. I am not sure Uber is allowed to pick up from the airport to go to any resort (Disney included) but they can bring you from the resort to the airport.
To make it easy on yourself you might want to hire a car service (there are several) to take you from port to Universal resort directly. Or as I mentioned, keep the DCL from port to airport and jump in a car service or taxi to the Universal resort. Hope it works out.

I'm not sure why you would pay for both the Disney transportation and then another car service in addition to get to Cabana Bay. I would just keep a one-way DCL bus to the ship and then get a car service to take you to your Universal hotel when your cruise is over. As far as I know, there is no Universal shuttle to/from the port.

If you look at the Universal forum and do a search, there's a thread with good suggestions for town cars etc. for Universal. We used someone called Tony (forget the details) that was recommended in that thread last time we needed to get from the airport to Cabana Bay, and it was great. I'm pretty sure he'd pick up from the port. We hired a car for a few days to do some other stuff, so drove to the port ourselves.

I totally understand the not knowing how it works at Universal cos you always stay at Disney....I felt like I was cheating on Disney that trip! We did enjoy Cabana Bay though, but my heart is still with Disney :).

That's the towncar part of the following answer: "private transportation (rental car or town car)." :)

With a towncar service you are hiring a car and a driver.

We used fltours.com from Universal to the port then to the airport. It was a good service. On the info side of the Dis, wdwinfo.com, there's a link that gives you something like included gratuities or something like that. The other choice we looked at was happylimo.com.

There's really no need to pay the $35pp to get from port to airport and then find another way to get to Cabana Bay. It adds time and is likely not the most cost effective way to do it.

We need to get from Cabana Bay to the port, although its for a RCCL cruise.

If you book a Universal/RCCL package they have a way, though the ONE review I read of it wasn't very impressive!

RCCL has a shuttle from the airport to the port, but then you have to get yourself to the airport and still pay about $35 pp to take the shared shuttle. If interested, just call Royal. I would hire a towncar if you don't want to deal with a rental car. :)

"Traditional" Uber is not allowed to pick up at the airport but there is a more expensive Uber, I believe it might be called UberBlack, that is allowed to pick up at the airport but it is costly....similar to hiring a town car.
They would be better off to get a car service to take them directly from the ship to Cabana Bay rather than going to the airport and then getting another ride from there. That is not going to be cost effective and will waste unnecessary time.
