Does DCA looks as bad in person as in photos?

The photos of the dca construction make it look like a disaster zone. Does it look as awful from the ground in person as it does from the aerial photos we're seen on here?

No most of it you can't tell. Only when you are by golden dreams and the pier where the walls are, and the water is missing. It's mostly interesting :)

Well....
If you are looking into the empty, construction zone ridden lagoon, I think it looks pretty grim. Other than that, it really looks fine. And the walls that are up are painted pretty and are fun to look at. So, just don't focus on the lagoon and it's all good - that's my opinion anyway!:)

Its mostly behind walls. The really bad views are from the fun wheel and the golden Zephyr. Otherwise its all behind the big blue walls.

But a couple years of construction will be SO worth it in the long run when the lagoon is filled, the new entrance is done, the Little Mermaid is built, and Carsland is completed.

Nah, the walls are so tall that you can't see things anyway. But once you go on the bridge or you're in the boardwalk area you can see the zone. But there's so much else going on around you that you really only notice for a moment, then carry on. All those walls make me feel like a mouse in a maze.

I didn't think it was bad either. Look at it this way: Here is your chance to see things before they go in. Take pictures and then you can say that you remember what it looked like before WOC. :thumbsup2 I'm the type of person that likes to see how things are made, and see how things work so maybe I have a different perspective on the construction. ;)

We were there in May & being in the park iteself was fine. Although I think that was the first time I'd been in there other than to see a parade. We really only noticed construction when we were up high on a ride.

Now, can someone tell me what I've missed? What are they making & when does it open?

Currently the giant lagoon is drained in preparation for a new nighttime water/fire show at DCA called World of Color, supposed to open Spring 2010. Also, some of the Paradise Pier rides (Orange Stinger, Mulholland Madness) are/will be under construction for new themes and new scenery.

Then soon (hasn't started yet) the entrance to DCA will be going under a lot of construction because they are redoing the whole entry way to make it look a lot nicer. Scheduled to open in 2011.

Recently, they bulldozed the old Golden Dreams theater over by the Palace of the Fine Arts building. It's now a large construction site for the new Little Mermaid dark ride, Ariel's Undersea Adventure, opening in 2011 also.

Then finally, in the back left corner of the park (assuming you are entering the park), they have started construction for a whole new land, Carsland, which will feature 3 new rides and is supposed to open in 2012.

Yep, lots of projects going on at DCA. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the scoop! Sounds like I'll be missing most of it in December. Guess there is another reason to go again, lol!
