Does Curves really work if you don't follow their diet plan?

Anyone have experience working out at Curves? I actually used to be a member but between not eating as healthy as I should've been and only getting there 1-2 times a week, I wasn't getting the desired results, so I ended my membership.

Now that I have some extra baby-weight to get rid of, and I work at home giving me a more flexible schedule, I am thinking about joining again.

The question is, if I don't follow their diet plan and just do their circuit 3 times a week, will I still lose weight? I understand that obviously I would need to have a healthy diet anyway, I just want to do that my own way, not following their specific plan.

I'm interested to hear from anyone who solely does/has done the Curves exercise circuit 3x/week (no Curves diet) and lost weight.

My DW went to curves 3-4 times a week and didn't follow their diet. She just tried to eat more healthy in general and was able to shed her new baby pounds pretty quickly and lost 20 lbs and 6% body fat in about a year. Doesn't sound too impressive on paper but she lost 4 pants sizes and toned up nicely.

I'm interested to find this out also. I started curves 5 weeks ago, not following their diet plan. They really didn't say anything about diet to me when I joined. I have been trying to watch, only have 10 pds to lose, but I have gained 2 pds. I'm a little discouraged. :confused3 :confused3

The questions is are you losing any mass. Muscle weights more than fat and as you convert it you may gain weight but lose mass.

I have lost about 10 lbs and 14 iniches since I joined curves in July. I did that from July to Nov. (I have not been faithful about going since Nov.) I count calories and do just fine.
good luck to you!

It's not unusual to gain weight at first at Curves. Are your clothes fitting better? looser? You're losing fat & gaining muscle.
When I follow Weight Watchers and do Curves, I lose weight. (when I was low-carbing it and doing Curves, I lost too.) You don't need to follow one of their eating plans, but you'll have better results if you follow a particular weight-loss eating program.

If you go to Curves at least 3x a week, work out hard for the 30 minutes, and somewhat are careful with what you eat, you will definitely tone up and maybe lose a few pounds/inches. I went for 2 years, and didn't really diet, but was somewhat healthy with what I ate. I didn't lose anything, but I didn't gain either.

Even moderate dieting will help you lose some weight at Curves. Just don't expect the huge weight loss unless you follow some diet whether it be Curves, South Beach, Weight Watchers, etc.

Thanks for encouragement. Yes, I do believe clothes fit better. My dh says he can see a difference but wasn't sure I believed him. I will keep trying, I know one day the scale will change. I do feel better. :yay:

I lost around 15 pounds in 8 weeks when I did the Curves Weight Loss Challenge. It was the hardest diet I have ever been on.

Once I finished the diet I went right back to eating poorly and gained everything back and then some.
I stopped going to Curves after the challenge due to work conflicts. But I did enjoy it.

I have been going to Curves 3 to 4 times a week for 2 years. I have not lost any weight, although I am definitely stronger and more fit.

At are club we have been told that 4 days a week is a minimum for weight loss.

Age enters into it also (I am over 40). If you are young you will have faster and better results!

I joined Curves in December 2004. I was obese at the time. I refused to set goals of size or weight in my initial appointment. I told them my "goal" was to get there and work out 3 days a week. I lost about 10-12 lbs just by doing the workout in the first 3 or 4 months. Then I did the Curves Weight Management Solution classes and began following their "diet" in addition to the workouts. THAT was when I really saw a difference. I lost over 45 lbs in 2005 and am continuing every day.

A co-worker of mine joined in March 2005. She was a small size and did not really have much weight to lose, but wanted to firm up. Well, she has firmed up and managed to lose about 10 lbs in the process.

Bottom line, you will get out of it what you put in to it. If you work HARD the entire 30 minutes you are there, you will get results, but if you add the diet aspect to it in addition to the exercise, the weight comes off much faster.

Curves is awesome. I love it. I joined in 2003 and STILL enjoy it ... that says something :)

I joined Curves when my first son was 3 months old. I had about 25-30 lbs to lose. I lost about 25 lbs in 9 months without following their diet. I did make a conscience effort to eat better though, but did not follow any strict diet. After 9 months, I plateaued and Curves wasn't working for me anymore. After my 1 year contract was up, I didn't renew and I joined the Y. I get a much better workout at the Y, but I give Curves all the credit for my initial weightloss.

My SIL joined Curves in December, she told me last night she has lost 11 lbs and 15 inches and she is not dieting at all.

When I did Curves without the diet, I didn't lose weight. I have never lost weight on any exercise program without "dieting" as well though. I think that has more to do with your individual body than with Curves.

I did gain strength and tone though.

I did CURVES back when they first were opening...2002. NO DIET PLAN back then at all. I will say the FIRST year I was a member, was my best. I needed to lose about 15 lbs. I lost allot of inches that first year. I was thrilled. I was going at least 4x a week. After a year, I needed more, so after my 35 minute w/o at Curves, I would drive over to our town walking track and did another 35 minutes power walking. :thumbsup2

2004 a brand new gym opened in our town. The specials to join were so amazing on top of the fact they had every piece of equipment imagineable...I decided for LESS than what I was paying at Curves I would join "XYZ Gym"!! ::yes::

So bottomline, for me, Curves was perfect for my FIRST year only...then to maintain and stay in shape, I needed more.

I always laugh when I see a nearly-4-year-old thread dug up! Why not just start a new thread?

If you go 3x a week for 30 min it will work, it does not matter what you eat, even fast food lol. If you do nothing then you start doing something it will work. But as pp have said your body gets used to it after awhile, but what would it look like if you were not doing that. I guess if the op joined her year would be up, so I wondered if it worked?:confused3 I have worked there before and it was really fun!

Shoot - I didn't notice that! The worst part is I show up as the first poster from this year, so it looks like I dug it up. How did that happen? I didn't dig up any old threads, there was a thread about curves on THE FIRST PAGE and I responded on it.

I never looked up anything about curves, simply responded to a thread I saw on the opening page of the community board. Do threads randomly pop back up or something?
