In my teaching class, we have to watch three episodes and answer some questions. I've never watched the show. Is this something I'm going to get hooked on? :teeth:

Oh most definitely.
I've been hooked since the first episode and the season premeire is looking REALLY good.

It's very good, and you may get "hooked" It is nothing like real school though.... maybe that's why you have to watch it? It stretches reality a bit... like teachers who shower nude in the locker room, and teachers who sneak away to "make out" during lunch time, and such.... SCANDALOUS!

I like it because it addresses some very real topics, and there are some touching moments (no pun intended)

I'm hooked! I't s been a pretty good show so far. The new season is soon to start! It will now be on friday nights!

it looks like the season premiere is on tonight!!

i've watched this show off and on since it began and i really like it. can't wait to see the new season!!

I watch it also! The VCR is set for tonight (I like going to the movies even more than Boston Public). It is a very entertaining show, and raises some serious subjects in between scandals.

Yes, I watch. Good show. Although moving it from Monday to Friday nights may be the kiss of death.

<font color=navy>I've never seen the show, nor seen it advertised on tv - couldn't tell you what channel it's on ...

But, next week they're going to be shooting on our street in front of my work. They film in Manhattan Beach, CA (at least, that's where the studios are), and they do some chase scenes in our area.

Last year it was a chase scene out of our parking lot. This year, they're going to have another chase scene with a slight car accident.

They have to send letters (they sent it to us via fax) to all the companies that share the street, and get permission if they're going to be on any part of their property, and have to deal with insurance and everything.

They film this stuff after hours, so I never see any of it, but I should check out the show to see my work neighborhood. :)

I can see I'm going to have fun with this assignment. During class the other day, our professor asked us...What would we do if something like this happened in our classroom? Yikes! Tonight's episode reinforces my feelings on NOT teaching at the high school level! ;) I'm supposed to find a theme for tonight's show. Hmmm...have to think about that. What goes on in the classroom and how does it affect the kids? Hmmm...not much in the classroom, but I'll have a bunch of stuff for out of the classroom! What's with the VP? He just looooooooooooooves to suspend and expel everyone! He didn't look too good at the end when he saw the principal and the music teacher kissing.

I've watched the show since the beginning, but it has gotten to be pretty out there. It's a wonder these teachers find the time to teach with all the time they spend in the lounge or going to court for stuff.

I'd like to know what real teachers think of it.

I would be fired and probably sued if any of that stuff (waving a gun, forming a suicide club, etc.) happened in my classroom. I like to watch it and say "that would never happen in my school or classroom". Although the show does touch on some very real issues, I think a lot of what is shown is very unrealistic and wouldn't be tolerated in most school districts. However, I teach in a rural and conservative district, so things may be different in the more liberal or inner city schools.

I love the "smell that shoe" lady.

Pin Wizard- That sounds like a fun assignment.

Wow! You've got some background there that I'm unaware of since I haven't seen the show before. You're right...it will be a fun assignment. I think I'm going to like this class! :) Now...to find that current events thing that ties in with education. That will be an oral report. ;)

You could discuss the No Child Left Behind Act. It has received a lot of criticism lately. Another hot topic is banning soda and snack machines in schools. Our state just passed a law mandating a minute of silence in all public schools.

I agree, as a HS teacher if kids were having sex in the building, rape or not, there wouldn't be a big argument about punishment, it would be suspension.
We just expelled a kid who had already been suspended for having drug paraphernalia, now he was caught on our new security cameras dealing drugs. We didn't coddle him or ask him what was wrong at home, we suspended him with intent to expel.
The show is entertaining, but it is nowhere near real life, at least not in the districts around here.

I find it unbelieveable they would do such a stupid thing in a school building. They really think they won't be caught?

The "No Child Left Behind" Act is a very hot issue inside and outside the classroom. It is interesting to see what the expectatoins of the state and the federal government are and the consequences of what will happen if those expectations are not met.
