Does anyone want to comiserate with me about the absurd world of airfares?

HorizonsFan, airfares between Dallas and Orlando are very comparable to those between Houston and Orlando. You don't have Southwest competing on the route, but you do have AirTran competing. In fact, I've noticed lately that American has been cheaper on their non-stops from DFW to Orlando than AirTran is on their connecting flights.

While there are more markets served by lowfare carriers out of Houston than out of Dallas, you've got us beat on a number of them. Just compare the fares between Dallas and Denver to the fares between Houston and Denver.

talk about high airfares southwest wanted to sell us[family of 3]tickets from portland, oregon to orlando, for $1789.00.

I was finally able to get us,twa for$1059.00 and that was a bargain!!!I felt lucky it was so low!!

SO,now you can all feel very lucky!! a $100. fare grab it!

MinnieME2-I think it was Bestfares where i read that you can buy a low priced 7 day advance ticket. I think they called it an emergancy ticket. i don't belong to bestfares so it was public info. try www.Bestfares.com it couldn't hurt. also try
http://book.lowestfares.com/planAir.asp and there is one that has super values but i can't find the address,Sorry.

I'm going from JFK in NY, although I could've flown from LGA, or at worst, Islip. The fare I got was actually a "sale" fare for 400/pp, for President's week. Maybe I should've looked more into flying into Tampa, although we do have a non-stop flight, and our rental car is booked at the Orlando airport at Avis, at a decent rate.(275 for 10 days for mid size) Any advice?

keep checking your flights daily from the ny area as there is still another sale to be had for the presidents week of travel. and if you are ok with going out of the 3 main terminals in ny (lga/jfk/ewr) then make sure that you check each and every one to see who has the best fare. I have a feeling there is something coming up next week cause they just put ot up for next week in the res cntr at usair here in pit. they do this when they predict peak calls for travel to come in.

frannn, as to advice, if you've already purchased your ticket, you are probably stuck with the price. You can watch to see if the fare goes down on your particular flights, and if so, you can get a travel voucher for the difference in fare, but it's unlikely the fare will go down on your particular flights between now and then.

What are your exact travel dates? Just saying President's Week doesn't help me in checking to see what's currently available. Also, which airline are you flying?

For my Dec trip a month ago, my SIL and I started looking this past June, She and I alternating checking everyday on the internet. Finally someday in July she found RT Delta Express for $109 total (inc.tax) can you imagine, by the time I bought them a few hours later they were up to $160 total. We got earliest flight to Orlando and latest flight home.
I'm now looking to go in March the cheapest is $216 (SWest) for less than desirable times. I feel like paying the $270 for the better times because I will only be there for a 3 day weekend.
But today I could go to Europe cheaper than Orlando, I found airfares from British Air for $210 RT and for Air France to Nice $300 RT.

for trying to help. I should have checked with you sooner. We are flying TWA on Feb 16, coming back on Feb 25. I booked with Lowestfares. If the fare miraculously drops, would I even be able to get a credit? I'm kicking myself, because in the one week we took to book the tickets, the fare went from about $275 (different airline, worse time and/or connecting flights) to $400/pp.
But, like I keep reminding myself, I'm still going to WDW!

I am trying to find a reasonable flight out of Houston to Orlando. The dates would be 5/12 (earliest flight) through 5/19 (evening). Do I need to wait awhile longer to get better rates than I'm seeing on some websites? On expedia on 1/15, I checked and found a Continental flight#1500 to Orlando and flight#9275,1529 back to Houston for 181.00 each. This was for four people. The catch was you had to purchase them by 1/16. I could kick myself for not buying them because today they are at $256.00. Should I wait until a certain time to start checking again or am I going to be stuck paying about that price at that time? Thanks in advance for any info you have.
