Does anyone think or hope they put a counter service place at Kidani??

We stayed there this summer. The lack of a CS option at KV was not an issue with us. We didn't think the walk was that bad. I would actually walk over to Mara in the AM to pick up a couple of pastries for breakfast. I would make sure the family was awake before I left. Everyone was dressed and ready to eat by the time I returned.

Being a member at BW since 98---So you are telling me that every member who bought into Kidahni when they crossed their "t"s and dotted their "i"s on there paperwork from DVC didn't know that a counter service was'nt included in their cost of membership:confused3.
I know at the BW the bakery hardley serves the purpose of being a counter service or drink station--not that great of a selection!
When we originally signed up at BW we knew we were purchasing JUST the room in Lake Buena Vista and not necesarily any perks of the parks .
Even if WDW was wiped off the face of the earth leaving only the BW standing--That is all I would be entiteled to-nothing more nothing less than a room. And I would be happy just with that- no restaurants-no gift shops!
Just a beautiful room. Maybe I'm wierd but we travel off property for eats, shopping, etc. on occassion and use the kitchen/kitchenette.

Personally I don't see the need for a CS at Kidani. We stayed there in June and didn't miss it. Then again, we stock our kitchen so we weren't really looking for anything either.

Maji pool bar does offer a few grab n go things and there is "private dining" available with a much larger selection including burgers for both adults and kids. (see menu from allears here: http://allears.net/menu/menu_maji.htm) I think a lot of the issues would be resolved if the "private dining" would take the DDP (I read somewhere that it is rumored they will in 2010).

Since members aren't restricted to staying at their home resort it really isn't only a question for people who bought there but all members. I'll add that we do own a few points there and knew there wouldn't be CS (and really hoped DVC would reconsider like they did with dining at SSR) but it will be trip dependent on if we book Kidani or Jambo. We're more likely to stay at Jambo. Also, when you don't drive to WDW and don't prefer to rent a car onsite dining can be an important aspect to a guest.

Actually 6 of us will be staying in a 2 bedroom at Kidahni on thursday- CS did not play a factor in staying there although we have a CS dining plan
My take on the situation is that is buy where you want to stay-if you know that it does not have an emenity (which is not guaranteed in your contract) for heavens sake don't buy there.
We were never guaranteed ESPN, Big River, or Spoodles-(oh wait its not Spoodles anymore) would be a ding option for us.---Yet to boot we would have to walk outside to get to our dining options--shame on Disney they need to fix that.

Threads take twisty turns! As anyone with over 5,000 posts knows very well.

I just returned from Kidani and loved it more than any place I have stayed at WDW. I had anticipated terribly long walks to Jambo from Kidani - and found it short and pleasant. I anticipated a terribly long walk from the lodge (check-in) to our room which was at the farthest end of the savannah arm - and found it much shorter than I expected. And I found the lack of a CS to be negligible. With the pool food service, room service, and the ability to keep fruit, yogurt, snacks and sandwich stuff in my studio it became a non-issue for me. And though I didn't get to eat there this trip I thought Sanaa was lovely and look forward to eating there next month. One evening we walked to Jambo for dinner and the walk was so easy we walked there again the next morning to eat at Bomas!

No, just noting that if a CS is needed at KV, then why not at all these other locations, too?

Those pools are generally the quiet pools at the DVC resorts and not necessarity the main pools.

I like the idea of a Hurricane Hannah's type of place at the Kidani pool. Maybe something that we can use our CS credits at if we are on the DDP, possibly? Or is that way too much to ask? :confused3

:thumbsup2

I wish they had something like that too. It is nice for the kids especially.

But At VAKL there is no quiet pools and none planed in the works.the food you can order is classed as private dinning and there is a fee to pay over the price advertised. Those 2 points are what got my goat up when we were there

Well, speaking for myself, it did not occur to me that there would not be counter service at Kidani when I purchased. The reason being was that when we bought Kidani, we were staying at SSR and we were told by our guide that all the vacation club resorts are set up just like SSR(restaurants, pool, game room, club house, laundry, etc.) We also figured since there are at least kitchenettes in each room, we would not be eating out as much. This sounded like a good idea until our last trip when we discovered that having food in our room means excess garbage and extra food and garbage leads to ROACHES! (That's right, I said it.)
So now I would rather not make food in our room because I do not want to encourage those garbage dwelling critters. Counter service at Kidani would be much appreciated.

Kidani absolutely should have expanded food service at the pool. Hurricane Hana's can do it, and so could Kidani. There's NOTHING food wise for kids at Kidani.

We saw people hiking between the resorts. looked like quite a march in the 90 degree sun. (We drove.)

You've pointed that one out a few times as well.

You will always find a few bugs here and there. Any infestations will be taken care of immediately by Disney. We've never had a problem with bugs and we always bring food items to either eat as they are or to cook in the villas.

It's Florida and Florida has bugs. The resort is not infested.

Strange, member since 2000, 20 trips +/-, stayed at every resort save BLT, HH & THV (coming in due time) and I've never had bugs other than mosquitoes. I stock a full kitchen at Disney and cook every day of our stay. I follow the same sanitary practices at Disney as I do at home and I've never seen a cockroach in a Disney Villa, much less an "infestation".

I hope you reported it immediately for your sake and the wellfare of the next residents to come!

Yes, I reported it immediately and had housekeeping, an exterminator and the hotel manager on it in a matter of minutes.
I have posted about this before as most of you know, but I was told by the hotel manager that they did have a known "issue" with roaches at AKL.
Again, if bugs and roaches don't bother anyone else, then go ahead and have a great time. For me, I won't be bringing food to my rooms any longer so counter service at Kidani would be a great help to me.

If there were CS at Kidani, we'd stay there. Since there isn't we'll try to book at the seventh month at Jambo. Nonetheless, what they seem to be missing is opportunity. If I'm on vacation, and it's easy to run downstairs and grab a quick meal for the family, I'm all for that. I'll do that every day of our vacation, just because I"m on vacation.

Make it hard, and frankly, I'll take my pick of fast food on 192, and save some money.

If you bought at AKV it doesn't matter which , Kidani or Jambo, you have the 11 window for both.
