ok I know its a long shot... but SOMEONE out there has to know what Im talking about!

its a gun-like tool that you would use to make a latch hook rug. It was popular back in the 70s and 80's and I tried to find it for my dd because I remember having so much fun with my mom making these. Well I finally found one but I got it and I CANT REMEMBER HOW TO USE IT! Waaahhhh lol

Does anyone know what Im talking about? and if you do, do you remember how to use it?

like I said long shot I know... but if anyone knows its you guys :)

Thanks :)
Binny

Yikes, I remember how to use it, but not how to describe using it. I'd have to have it in front of me to tell you. sorry

Yes! I remember it!

The way I remember it, you loop the piece of yarn around the hook, then pop the hook through the hole in the canvas, and then pull the yarn through. It should make a slip knot with the two strings coming out towards you.

I'm not sure I explained that well, but I hope you get the idea.

Good luck!

oh sure tease me! ;)
LOL
would it help if I took a picture of it for you? I feel like an idiot lol I was SO excited to get it then I go to use it and darn if I can figure it out  LOL

Some day I will think this is REALLY funny! ;)

ok sweet pea.. I think Ive got that... but is that the gun tool? it sounds like the regular latch hook? maybe Im just really dumb lol

Just do what sweet pea said a couple times and it should come back to you.

And I'm sorry for teasing you, well, almost.

Um, sorry, I thought you were talking about the latch hook thingy. What's the gun tool?

I got quite a few latch hook rug kits for xmas this year and last....is that what you are talking about?

Ok, you will need both hands.

First take the yarn piece (should be about 3 inches long or something like that)

First take the yarn piece and loop it under the long silver "neck", with the ends straight up.

You will then grab the wood handle piece on the right hand, but the left hand will wind it up around the movable hook thing.

Then you can put the hook thing in the latch hook square... you will quickly pull the latch hook so the moveable piece is touching the canvas...if you pull it correctly you should make a slip knot!

I don't remember the gun either....I did think you were talking about the latch hook thingy (whatever you call that). I'm not sure if I've ever seen it. I found something called a "tufting gun" on the web. Is that what is it? I'll keep searching for instrux.

no... it isnt one of the newer kits or tools Lisa.. but thanks :)

You cant buy these anymore I dont think.. it looks like a gun... thats the best way to describe it. Its the tool that you would use like the regular hook but it isnt the regular one. Are you confused yet? ;)

It was called the " rapid rug gun" and If I remember correctly its a different premise than the regular hook that people use now.. maybe they didnt work too well maybe thats why they arent still around lol..

Anyway thanks for all the help everybody! Ill try to post a pic of it tomorrow so you can see what I mean.

Sorry Im being so difficult.

I don't think I've ever heard of the 'gun' binny??? I've only ever had the 'hooks' - even as a child. Did you figure it out yet???

I vaguely remember what you are talking about.....check out this web-site...and the BB, maybe they can help:
