If so, how do you like it?

Yes! I just bought one about a month ago. I'm really trying to improve my health and nutrition. It's fantastic! I make green smoothies a lot first thing, and it makes me feel so good, full of energy. I make fruit smoothies a lot when I'm getting the desire for something cold and sweet. My favorite right now is coconut milk, almonds, frozen mangoes, banana, ground flax seed and flax seed oil, ice and some water. Really delicious, like a milkshake. You can learn more on the green smoothie girl website; lots of great recipes and compare it to the blend-tech.

I love mine! It is 7 years old and is still running like a charm. I dropped the little cap in and did not notice it, started the thing up and :dance3:. I called the VItamix folks thinking I ruined it but they were fantastic! it seems that the designers knew people drop things in and there is a little thing that is made to break so that you do not burn it out. I got replacement parts for under $18 with free S&H. I was just over teh 7 year warrantee so the agent waived the fee for me.......all without me even thinking to ask.

it is a strong workhorse of a machine!

I've always wanted one...

What is a "green smoothie"?

Hi Nancy! :wave2:

Bought one about 3 months ago and love it.

We make green smoothies as well. We try to do one a day. It is fun experimenting.

I have also made tomato basil soup in mine (it has the soup setting). It is yummy. Hmm, that might be dinner!

I have made vanilla ice cream but it is more ice milk tasting.

If anyone else has recipes could you post them please?

Hi Nancy! :wave2:

A "green" smoothie uses greens (spinach, kale, collard, mustard, etc). I do a couple of different kinds a day. I also throw in carrots, apples, pineapple, berries, whatever sounds good to me at the time. I sweeten mine with stevia.

We do fruit smoothies for the kids. They won't touch the green ones!

Thanks for the replies! I took the plunge and ordered one today. I have been searching for a powerful machine for smoothies but haven't had much luck. I know the VM is pricey, but I haven't heard any bad reviews so far. I am looking forward to trying the green smoothies as I am also trying to improve my health. :)

saw them at demos at trade shows. They motor is so powerful, it's like the equivalent of a lawn mower! Plus, because of the glass pitcher, you can add hot liquids in while blending, to make hot soups. Something that can't be done with with the plastic pitchers most blenders have.

We got to sample quite a bit of the foods that were demoed. My favorite was the tortilla soup.

Check out Yahoo Groups, they have a few Vitamix groups there with recipes & tips. One of them even has the tortilla soup recipe.

We like ours. And dang that thing works well!

Just a hint though, the recipes in the book that accompanies the machine lack flavor (soup especially). We couldn't figure it out, until we realized that none of them add salt/seasoning. Make the recipes your own!

I have a Blendtec and love it! I've never heard anything bad about Vitamixes or Blendtecs. Everyone who owns them seems to be really happy about everything with it (except the price, lol) :) I get way more fruits and veggies now than I did before I had it. Every morning I make a green smoothie also.. Mine is 4 cups packed spinach, a frozen banana, a splash of lemon juice and whatever misc fruit I have sitting around that looks really ripe and needs to be used up. Fill it up with water and blend away :) My DD has been drinking them since we started her on solids and she LOVES them too, the greener the better! She's 20 months now and she'll eat spinach by itself, lol.

If you are starting with the green smoothies, I recommend starting with a few leaves of spinach/kale/whatever and go fruit heavy and then every day add more spinach and reduce the fruit. It took me a while to be able to pack mine with 4 cups but it's worth it. The lemon really helps cut the greenness to it. Also if you end up with a smoothie that's too green for you, plug your nose and try to chug it. Then the next one you make won't taste nearly as green, or that's what I've found from personal experience, at least. Your taste buds get used to it fast :)

Have fun with yours! :)

This is good for those starting out on green smoothies....1 c spinach, 1 c romaine lettuce, 2 stalks celery, 1 whole unpeeled cucumber, 1/2 lemon, 1 apple, 1 frozen banana and some frozen mango (or any other fruit). I like frozen fruit because it tastes better to me if it's really cold. This makes enough for morning and afternoon (or to be shared). Check out the green smoothie girl website for some good recipes. I can just feel my cells shouting "hurray" when I drink mine in the morning.

Have any of you lost weight with green smoothies?

I have an older one... maybe 5 or 6 years old... bought it at Costco when they demo them... mine is plastic. I have made hot soup in mine, but not often.

I certainly think it's possible, but it really all depends on what else you're eating and whether or not you exercise. I think when you flood your body with such nutrition first think in the morning, a lot of your cravings go away because you feel so amazing after a green smoothie. It's also a great way to get in the 7-9 servings of vegetables we should be eating.
