I tried watching it a few seasons ago and I just didnt' enjoy it at all. I watched the first few "hours" and I was zzzzzzz. I'm so sick of hearing about this show! ;)

And how many times can this guy Bauer save the world? I would imagine it gets old.....fast!

I love this show, but I understand where ya comming from, I often hear the hype about a show I never cared for and it really gets on your nevrves hearing about it constantly

O M G!!!! You'd better run for the hills!!! NOW!!! Or I'll get JB (his close friends call him JB) to pay you a "visit" just to make sure you're not a terraist or something.

Yeah...I mean I should like it since I love those types of shows. My mom is sick of me talking about Lost all the time..so I can relate with her.

:rotfl: Maybe JB can work on that time machine?? :cool1:

Tim, you're not alone. I love that TYPE of show (and movie), but I just can't get into 24. I tried watching it a few seasons back and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Funny thing... it's not like me to totally miss the boat on a pop cultural mini-phenomenon. :confused3

I totally know what you are talking about. I really tried because I know I love shows and movies like that as well. But....it did nothing for me. I'm also not crazy about Keither (sp?) so that might be part of it.

You'd better run!

I think if I would have gotten involved from the beginning, I probably would have really liked it. I've never seen one show though--I was so busy with school, I didn't have a lot of time to watch TV. Also I think it is on during a time when DS is up and I don't think I'd let him watch it. Again, I'm not sure about that since I've never seen it though.

I watched it for about half the first season, but it seemed that everybody in his organization was really a spy, so I gave up on it Oh, and the people in the show did not seem likable.

Love 24!!! Started watching Season 4 and was hooked. Then last summer, I watched seasons 1-3. I tried to get into Lost though, and at the beginning of the 2nd season, they ran the show that was a review of the first season, and I thought it looked interesting. Then I watched a few episodes of season 2 and I didn't care for it at all. Maybe if I had started at the beginning it would have been different.:confused3

But 24's the best!

I've been pretty lucky over the last three or four years to have the general public's popular opinion regarding television program pretty much track with my own. Prior to that, I remember many occasions where everyone would be so "into" a television program -- it would be so much part of everyday discussions -- but I'd be totally mystified about why these people actually would even watch these shows, much less expend so much energy thinking and talking about them.

I think the reason why so many people love 24 is that it makes people feel good. It's thrilling, but always provides lots of glorious pay-offs. It's exactly like a roller-coaster, and I think people love it for the exact same reasons. The cast is always first-class, and the stories are easy to get drawn into. The production quality is absolutely first-rate -- it is the one show I was thinking about when we bought our HDTV. (Funny -- it's the last show to return after hiatus, since we actually received our HDTV.)

One key for enjoying 24 is to recognize it for what it is. It isn't supposed to be absolutely realistic. You want realistic? Watch Sleeper Cell (which is absolutely incredible, by the way). 24 is intended to be thrilling, and they achieve that hold-your-breath momentum often by playing with the clock a bit. It's called "suspension of disbelief" -- it was necessary for you to enjoy Peter Pan, and it is just as necessary for you to enjoy 24.

And most of the best shows on television now require a good heathy dose of suspension of disbelief. I think the American public has gotten over its prudishness regarding fantasy. We've realized that fantasy is GOOD. It's fun. It entertains. Really, for many, reality is far more boring.

And how many times can this guy Bauer save the world? I would imagine it gets old.....fast!
On the contrary, it seems to stay pretty darned new. This past season was perhaps the best.

Absolutely. As I said before, it's all about fantasy being more fun than reality. Lost -- absolutely a lot of suspension of disbelief is needed. However, also Grey's Anatomy -- do you really think there is that much sleeping around between the doctors going on in a typical hospital surgery department? Do you really think that any group of 8-10 people have that much drama in their lives? Of course not. Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, etc. They all require you to just overlook certain realities.

I have to agree with the OP. I do not get the hype over 24 :confused3 Having said that I'm the only one in my whole family who is not obsessed with this show. My mom just bought all the prior seasons at Target 2 weeks ago and spent over $100 on it just to catch up before the new season starts tomorrow. I couldn't help but think the $100 was insane to pay. She loves it. My brother's can't get enough. Everytime I say something like "What's the big deal?" They call me a terrorist!!! :rotfl:

I have to be honest and say I have only watched it once. Maybe if I had watched it from the start that would have been different. I feel dh and I are so committed to other tv shows we just can't take on anymore!!!

I just spent $200 for five seasons of the Sopranos, which has seasons about half the duration of '24'. $100 for five seasons of television is an absolute STEAL.
