Does anyone know if Peter Benchley got to ride Jaws?

May he RIP. Just wondering what he thought of it.

I did a search yesterday to try to see if I could come up with an answer to no avail. :rolleyes2 I will say that while I don't know if he rode it and if so what he thought of it, I would guess he wouldn't have been thrilled...from all I've read he was a HUGE shark conservationist and seemed to have alot of regret for how sharks were demonized as a result of Jaws. So...if you look at the attraction, I guess I'd have to say with the shark killing and the nature of it in general, that perhaps he may not have liked it...but who knows! :confused3 Just my thoughts on it...

Thanks! I did some searching after I posted yesterday, and you're right, he said he regretted writing the book and explained how he was only 24 and naive when he came up with the idea.

Dh has always been fascinated with Jaws, read the book in the 4th grade, couldn't wait to see the movie, etc, so he was sad to hear he passed away last Saturday.

I hope Peter Benchley got to see that his fans appreciated his work and how the story brought awareness to shark conservation and is still enjoyed for the entertainment vaue of it and nostalgia which is what the ride gives me...the fun memory of watching the movie from a lawn chair at the drive-in the Summer it came out, afraid to take a bath afterwards, LOL.

Thanks again!

He did. He rode it for a documentary, if I remember right and he liked it.

Early 90's is all I remember.

Love Jaws too. I hope that they are running when we are there Memorial Day weekend.

big regret for us was that it was closed due to weather (lightning) when we visited in 2003. Maybe someday we'll get back there and it will be up and running!

He did ride it with his wife in the early 90's. He liked it, and actually was believed to have contributed to some of the wacky television shorts that you see on the TV's in the staging area while on line. He wasn't too keen on the ride operator firing his weapon at the shark (he was actually a great believer in shark conservation) but he knew it was all in good fun and part of a thrill for the riders.
