Has anyone gone to or know anything about gold parties at peoples homes where you take your old gold and sell? Is it better than selling yourself? Thank you for any info.

These are legit in Alabama here I know. I had two friends that sold their gold at one of these. They said they only took a little and one got $700 and the other $900. They were really thrilled. The person have the party also makes 10% of what is sold. Some that went also said they received the same amount that a jewelery store offered.

thanks that is what I was wondering...I would rather do that(go to party of someone I know) than mail the gold off in an envelope or trust a jewelry store...thank you for replying...maybe can get some money to help pay off Christmas...

I hosted one! Had a reputable local jeweler come over, and many friends came. What a nice change to go to a ladies night and leave with cash, instead of a charge receipt for products you spent too much for?! As hostess, I got over 500.00--10% of what my friends sold. Spent money on food and wine, but I would have done that anyway. Good luck!

I hosted one and It was great...I made over $1300. They pay $150 just to host the party plus a % of the sales.

I was not going to host. I was wondering more about if a fair price was offered or you could do better else where. Question for someone who attendend one and had knowledge if they recieved a fair price.

I have a friend who buys gold and when someone tells him about the gold parties he asks them where they think the overhead is coming from. So if you're offered $1800 for your gold it's actually $2000 and you're paying $200 to the host for the privelege of selling your gold.

thats more of what I was thinking...you have the person hosting and I was wondering where or who is the one actually paying is it and ogranization or someone local? You could just go there and sell it...I guess it still would be better than mailing it in and envelope to some stranger...just wondering if anyone had any real experience with it.

I saw a CNN report on these parties over the holidays. Basicly they said that most companies that buy gold at parties give you an okay price, but not the best you can usually do on your own with a bit of leg work. They recomended taking it to several different pawn shops and jewelry stores, and see what others are offering.

But, if you don't feel like doing all that, or there aren't many places that buy gold in your area, you could do worse than a gold party, at least according to the report. In your shoes, I'd get the name of the company buying the gold ahead of time and doing a bit of reserch on them, just to make sure there aren't any known issues with them.
